Note to nogoodnik: stop making goals like "I'm going to do a ****load of pimsleurs in one day and finish the course by May 15, at which point I will have lost my mind completely and have begun approaching strangers asking them in Russian if they have any money or if they want to travel to their husbands house on foot, while simultaneously losing my ability to communicate effectively in any language at all. Stop the madness if you value your sanity.

Hebrew is going well; Most of the time when I don't understand something in a movie, TV show, or song, it's not in my dictionary or google translate either and I have to call a native speaker. Tachlis, I'm using my SRS a lot again and measuring progress by time instead of number of sentences recorded.

I haven't started French yet, but I have begun listening to some music and I'm waiting for Assimil to come in the mail.

I've been listening to a lot of French rap and Serge Gainsbourg to get more comfortable with the flow of the language. I also caught up with several episodes of "The Big Podcast" in Russian and my comprehension level has increased! I'll do some reading in Hebrew tonight and watch a couple of TV shows. I also had two extensive Hebrew-only conversations today.

I'm setting small goals this week so I don't go off the deep end like I did a few days ago:

If I'm studying mathematics or just messing around on the computer, I will have a podcast, vocabulearn, or music on in target languages.

I will do one Pimsleur level per day

I will watch one extra TV show than I usually would.

I'll continue with all of the other stuff I usually do (reading, watching movies, talking to people, an hour a day of sentence mining, etc...)

These past few days have been excellent for language-learning.

I've been watching a lot of Israeli TV and reading all kinds of Hebrew language media and putting sentences into my SRS.

I downloaded French in Action and just finished watching the fourth video.

I'm not doing a lot with Russian right now study-wise, but I'm listening to a lot of music and podcasts. The plan is to review the MT Advanced Course again tonight.

I've been sick the past few days, so I've been stuck in bed and have been spending my free time watching French in Action videos and Israeli TV. I have been able to keep up on my SRS reviews though, which I consider a small but satisfying victory. O.K. back to bed now!

I feel much better today. Last night in a cold-medicine infused conversation I was complaining to an Israeli friend (in Hebrew, gotta get my practice in) about my reading skills. He deduced that I'm still reading letters and not words. He said that I need to think of each word as a separate symbol, and not rely on the incomplete alphabet to try to pronounce it.

I'm trying to increase my reading speed, so I've decided to take on a short-term project of watching Hebrew-subtitled films I've already seen with the volume off. This should be less frustrating than reading novels because the vocabulary is usually more simple and I already know the story. Also, If I'm not able to read a couple of words in a sentence, fine...the sentence disappears in a few seconds and I have new material to read.

Well I haven't gotten around to watching Hebrew-subtitled films with the volume off yet. I have the tendency to come up with strange schemes, post them here, and forget about them soon after.

I have still been listening and watching huge amounts of Hebrew media. I actually download TV episodes and try to get myself addicted to watching them; what a strange journey learning Hebrew has turned out to be!

I just finished lesson 14 of French Assimil and I'm on video 12 or 13 of French in Action. I haven't been doing anything with Russian lately, but that is due to Pimsleur fatigue and not yet settling into any other courses.

I'm really enjoying French Assimil. I generally cannot learn from language instruction books because they've taken all of the fun out of the process for me, but Assimil's lively dialogues and cultural references keep me interested.

I'm really sad that there isn't a recent English-based Russian Assimil course.

Besides Assimil I'm trying to watch all of season 3 of Haalufa (really bad yet entertaining Israeli telenovela) and am writing down any words I don't recognize to put in my SRS. 25/70 episodes down.

I'm also watching French in Action and writing down any interesting words/concepts that come up.

I'm listening to tons of Russian music but am still feeling kind of stuck with this language right now.
