I just finished FSI Arabic 5 tonight. It took me three sessions just to get through the
recorded parts, and I freaked a bit when I turned the page and saw 11 pages of
'supplemental sentences.'   That was Saturday, and I couldn't even face those 11 pages on
Sunday. But they turned out to be pretty easy. I need to keep my vocabulary list next
to me, but that's ok for now.

I can now say such important phrases as "this communique is private" and "that is the
minister of the republic." Phrases which I will probably never need.

Next up ... Chapter 6 introduces the idafa construction. I remember it being tricky at
first, but that easy once it clicked. Let's hope it clicks quickly this time.

The audio for Vol 2 of FSI MWA is pretty complete but unfortunately a few files seem to be missing from Vol 1. Does anyone have access to them?

Chapter 13 of the Saudi course is reminding me what a pain Arabic numbers are ... ugh ...

@kanewai: Thanks for your response. Let me check and get back to you about the missing files.

I seek forgiveness from my fellow group members for not properly introducing myself first. :-)

Background:
I am from Kolkata(Calcutta), West Bengal. I am an engineering student in my second year of college.
Linguistic Skills:
I am a native speaker of Bengali and can speak fluent Hindi (I've been mistaken for a native speaker on occasion). I am fairly competent in English although my accent isn't something that I am proud of. :-)
Current Situation:
As an engineering student, I have other subjects too that demand my attention. So when it comes to language learning, I find it difficult to maintain motivation and stick to a definite routine. Maybe this study group is just what the doctor ordered. :-)

Napoleon

P.S.: My next post will describe my current position with respect to the languages in question, i.e. French and Arabic.

Language:
French

Reason for Study:
I may have to work in francophone countries after I finish my formal education. Its needless to mention that I am seriously intrigued by the culture, music, cuisine, etc. of the francophone world.

Courses:
I have already collected a veritable library of different courses. A few more are in the mail awaiting delivery to my doorstep.
There are a few courses that I plan to complete thoroughly. Apart from these "core" courses, I plan to do a few more just to satisfy my wanderlust. :-)
The following are the courses that plan on doing (The starred ones are those that I'll be particularly concentrating on):
1. Foreign Service Institute - Introduction to French Phonology*
2. Foreign Service Institute - French Basic Course*
3. Assimil - New French With Ease*
4. Hugo - French In Three Months*
5. Assimil - Business French
6. Assimil - Using French
7. French In Action
8. Assimil - French Without Toil
9. Easy French Reader by R. de Roussy de Sales

Current Position:
Chapter Three of FSI French Phonology
17th Lesson of Assimil New French With Ease
3rd week of Hugo French In Three Months

Language:
Arabic

Reason for Study:
I have a strong feeling that I might have to work in one of the Gulf countries. :-)

Courses:

There are a few courses that I plan to complete thoroughly. Apart from these main courses, I plan to do a few more just to satisfy my wanderlust. :-)
The following are the courses that plan on doing (The starred ones are those that I'll be particularly concentrating on):
1. Teach Yourself Arabic Script
2. Mastering Arabic Script*
3. Foreign Service Institute - Modern Written Arabic*
4. Madinah Arabic Course*
5. Foreign Service Institute - Saudi Urban Hijazi Arabic Basic Course*
6. Colloquial Gulf Arabic
7. Teach Yourself Gulf Arabic
8. Defence Language Institute - Modern Standard Arabic*
9. Easy Arabic Grammar
10. All The Arabic You Never Learned The First Time Around.

Current Position:
I think I need to concentrate on the cursive form of the Arabic script, now that I can read the printed script fairly well.
Chapter 2 of FSI MWA-I. I had done till lesson 11 in the past but I'm re-visiting them too. ;-)
Lesson 5 of the Madinah Book 1. Maybe I should do a quick revision here too given how long I have neglected this language.
