This title may sound crazy, but this is taken from an actual textbook for foreigners to learn Norwegian. I
thought about this sentence when I saw the vocabulary that some people are listing, which in some cases is really, really odd. I therefore suggest that we each write down "My word for the day" in Russian, which hopefully would be a useful word for our fellow language learners. What I had in mind was something like - chosing a word, and its translation - explain why you had chosen the word and then as optionals - any grammatical peculiarities - different ways of using it in a sentence - or whatever else you find relevant. The point is - to build up a sensible vocabulary, and - to lure people into writing a sentence or two, or at the very least a word in their target language. Getting people to move from the passive to the active use of their target language would be positive, but I see that all too many write about their target language, but they do not actually write in their target language. Me included. It could also be interresting to see which words different people find useful. ---------------- Now my chosen word would be любить : To love Not because I would like to go around telling people Я люблю тебя even though I actually get to say that quite a bit in Russian, though generally more to young girls I know well and consider family, than to any tall, dark and handsome men :-). Mostly I like the word because I can talk about things I like to eat. (And I love to eat: I have an impressive waistline as proof :-) A typical sentence for me would be Я люблю шоколад. Now whatever you love must of course be put into accusative, and the nice thing about accusative, is that in both masculine and neutrum it is mostly the same as in nominative. If what you love is a living thing your ending will be the same as in genetive, as in all animated objects. In feminine you always add a -у or a -ю whether the object of your love is dead or alive, and you are good to go. So what is your Russian word for the day? Now the nifty thing about it being the word for the day, is that you can return to add more words as often as you want, as long as it is not on the same day. I've done some vocabulary memorization yesterday, and it included using the new words in sentences, mostly like Jana Fadness does in her twitter/facebook.
Moё русскоe слово дна - глагол: "настаивать/настоять". По-английски, это значит "insist". Обычное использование со словом "Чтобы". Можно его пользоваться так: - "Он настаивает на том, что его версия правильная." - "Я настоял, чтобы мне помогли с экзаменами." Пока пока =) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

По-моему, лучше звучит "бывает очень важно знать" =)
Классная идея! Так интереснее, чем просто подписаться на аккаунт в твиттере =) (Кристина, в первом посте опечатка - пишется "любить";)) А носители языка могут добавлять слова? Я на днях узнала, что одно грузинское лакомство по-русски правильно называется чурчхела =) мама это очень любит...от нее я и узнала это слово, но она всегда думала, что называется "чучхела"%) Edited by Serpent on 07 March 2012 at 6:00pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
