Hi Romulans.

For those in the team studying Spanish, I will be your TAC godfather. I was waiting till waters calmed down and now that the team seems to be settled and the TAC has just begun, I subscribed to your team log and the individual logs of all of you who are listed as studying Spanish. Those who don't know me yet can have a look at my self-introduction in my TAC'13 learning log.

As for what my attributions as godfather are, it's basically about assisting people with their Spanish studies. In what form exactly? Well, after a couple of comments by prominent HTLALers, I went over that in the TAC'13 organization thread and I don't recall a single more thing being said on the subject, which I don't know what means exactly -- either it was the definite definition or a pile of drivel not worth commenting on. Then again it may just have been forgotten, buried as it is in the middle of a 90+ pages thread. So, besides that, I'm open to suggestions and requests from you, partaking in Skype sessions, telling jokes, whatever, really. Which reminds me...

I really want to believe in Rousseau's 'noble savage' theories about learning, so I'd prefer to stay in the background and not intervene unless there's a cry for help or the need to do so -- any unrequested intervention on my part should be seen as a sign of something gone really wrong. OTOH it might be that Rousseau's theories are total BS (wanna ask me?) and it's better if I actively prevent you of going too wrong too many times. Just start with your stuff and we'll see what's more appropriate :)

Last but not least, please don't get frozen because there's a native around. I don't mind being told that the library is the goat's mustache, and I don't bite or anything -- well, unless you poke me just right ;)

OK, good luck with your studies everyone and remember I'm at your disposal.

How would you guys feel about taking one one more newbie learning

first.

I don't mind. We wouldn't want to leave him/her floating around without a team now, would
we?

We must take this person in. For some reason, the expression "auberge espagnole" springs to mind. :p

I think understand espagnole, but auberge just looks like aubergine (eggplant) to me, and that doesn't seem to make sense. Or do I just not get it?

L'Auberge espagnole is a very multilingual movie, as far as I know.

It is a movie. It is also an idiomatic expression in French (a Spanish hostel), meaning:
a) a place or a situation where you only find what has been taken there;
b) a place where you can find all kinds of people.

I find it quite appropriate, because:
- some people here want to learn French;
- some want to learn Spanish;
- we come from all over the world;
- we all have something to give to the group;
- everyone is welcome;
- etc.

Well, there goes my eggplant theory :-} though when you say "hostel" I can see that that would be correct. Often when you know what a Romance word means, it's easy to see connections to other words.

It's a good description, Luso. I will let our new member know that our door is still open.
