Ok, this is a briefer summary of a post that was lost, posted around March 1st.

I have reviewed the first half of NPCR Book 2. Lots of vocabulary that needs to stick, I think I have done a pretty good job with this, but I could always improve retention and also volume with all sorts of tricks, which I am now doing (sticking Hanzi onto objects at home, going out with my DK visual dictionary, texting my Chinese friends when something comes up... this last one without much abuse, only one call to each per week or so, that allows me 5 questions).
I am in the middle of Unit 8 BSC but have done the bulk of grammar and vocabulary/dialogues. Now I just need to finish some drills and role plays and be done with it.
It is now full steam ahead with lesson 21 NPCR, and finishing Unit 8 BSC this week.
I will also begin meeting with a conversational partner/tutor, on Fridays. While some people here argue the value of a tutor for speaking, my point with this person is not to be corrected or directed in speech. I just want someone to PRACTICE Chinese. At this earliest of stages, it is simply too tortuous for native speakers NOT INTERESTED in helping poor rookies in their language to sit there and wait 30 seconds to hear something resembling coherent, understandable output. Thus, this tutor will be just for me to talk with, of course she will correct me and help me out to express myself, but the point is too talk. This way, I can gain speed and fluency as quickly as possible so that I can be liberated from this stage, and begin to talk to anyone who speaks Chinese, which is the time when skills really begin to soar due to the exponential increase in output.
So we shall see.

I'm really sailing full-wind into the ocean of words... Every day I am flooded with new vocabulary from all sides: BSC, NPCR, Tutor, Class, and from my own visual dictionary searches...

I hate complex prepositional compounds, in ANY language!
hinüber, dorthin, dahin, herüber, herauf, heraus, herunter, hinein...
下来,上来,下去,起来,出去,进去,进来 ,过来,回去,上去,下去。。。
AAARRRGGGH!

LOL! I'm Chinese, and I find those German compounds difficult. I guess similarity with your L1 doesn't always make an L2 easy.
