Hey everybody,
Glad to meet you all! My name is Jacob, and I'm from Tel Aviv, Israel.
I'm 33 and I speak fluent English & Hebrew. In the last few years I've been working for a big international company,
which allowed me to travel a lot. Travel, as you all know, is the best way to practice your language skills and to feel
how languages really work - not from tapes, courses or internet sites.
Currently, I'm trying to upgrade my French. I think I'm at about B1 (this is what I estimated according to the wiki
article explaining the level system. I was never tested). I aim to upgrade it to C1 this year. For that, I'm trying to use
sites like lang-8 for writing practice and Duolingo for vocab. and translation practice. Also, I'll take on a French
course in the French Embassy's Institut Francais.
I can also chat very basically in Spanish and Arabic, but I'll take it one language at the time for now... :)
I have to tell you that you guys are very impressive and inspiring. Seeing the targets that some of you guys are
taking for 2014, makes me feel that my own modest goals are very achievable. Thanks for that!
Happy new year!

Welcome to the forum, Jacob! Israel is one of my favourite countries, and one where I know you have a lot of
polyglots. I hope you will enjoy your time on the forum - just be careful: It s addictive:-)

Thank you!
And you are right, we do have a lot of polyglots here.
The reason for that, I suspect, is that Israelis have no fear of making speaking mistakes in foreign languages... I'm
trying to adopt this attitude myself, and drop my tendency to perfectionism... I hope it will work!
