I don't use tanslation software. When I need to look up words in German, however, I tend to use
dict.cc.

To the OP--what's your reason for translating? It seems to me there'll be different answers depending on what you're looking for. If you're just translating individual words, then a dictionary makes sense. If you just want a rough idea of what a sentence means, then Google Translate may make sense. If you want to produce an exact translation of a sentence, I'd use a native speaker, or a dictionary.
