Hello people!! I've started learning Finnish few days ago...I love Finnish culture,Finnish people and Finland ^^ and I've been longing for learning finnish for almost two years

Well in my opinion Finnish is much easier than eg German ;) The grammar is a lot more logical for example. Although somewhere deep in my mind I understand that it's because I put more effort into my Finnish studies... But facts are facts: after studying German at school for almost four years and Finnish on my own for 1.5 years I speak the latter one much better than the former one. How are you learning Finnish? On your own, I guess, just as I do? Practise as much as possible and don't worry too much about mistakes - everyone makes them even in such relatively simple languages as Italian and I guess even Esperanto. If you like Finnish music, and I'm somehow sure you do, use it as a pleasant way to improve your listening skills - try to listen to more songs in Finnish. If you want I can recommend some really great Finnish bands ;) EDIT: Just noticed in another thread that you like The Rasmus. Well frankly speaking I like heavier stuff, don't know if Ruoska, Mokoma, Teräsbetoni or Maj Karma are too heavy for you or not... And these bands are less heavy, but still great: Klamydia, Tehosekoitin, Tiktak, Yö, Apulanta. And can't resist recommending one really amazing Finnish band that sings in English: Charon. Guess what, I love Moonsorrow :-))) actually I listen mostly to Finnish bands and can name at least 60 that I like, so I decided not to write them all here;)

With your Spanish-speaking background you will find pronunciation relatively easy, though you'll need to learn a couple of new sounds, and especially to distinguish between long and short vowels and consonants. Hi guys!!! Thank you all for supporting me! =) I really appreciate it =)
How come I chose Finnish?? well,I love Finland I think it's a beautiful country *_* It's true It's million miles away from Argentina,but actually, I don't care that much. I'm planning to make a trip to Finland in some years so that's why I want to learn to speak Finnish as fluently as I can...and I also think it's a nice language to learn SERPENT: I have nothing but thanks for you! I mean it!!! those links you posted are incredibly helpful!! And yes, I'm learning Finnish by my own, in part because I can't afford a Finnish course,and in part because it's extremely hard to find Finnish teachers,Finnish institutes or Finnish courses over here...It's a 50/50 thing... I Love finnish bands too!!!!!!!!! =D The rasmus is my favourite one,but I also love heavy stuff! I like stratovarious,sonata arctica,HIM,69eyes,Negative,amorphis,lovex,Lordi,children of bodom,apulanta,apocalyptica,and I also loved Nightwish (It's not the same without Tarja,in my opinion...) Not all of them are heavy bands, (like negative or apulanta which are not so heavy)but I like them anyway...=) I didn't know about Moonsorrow but about Charon,which i think it's a great band!;) Anyways...back to the main subject...do you remember?? the finnish studies?? hahaha! XD No, I mean it,I'd like to tell you I've progressed a lot in these days i've been studying... At the beginning I couldn't even to remember how to say "hi" It was extremely hard for me to remember how to write (correctly) a word...that's because of the ä and the ö,which were unknown letters for me... I still have some serious problems to find the right pronunciation of ä,ö and SPECIALLY of y in some words like "Jyrki",for instance...I realise it sounds like an "u" but at the same time it doesn't sound like an ordinary "u"...It's a closer sound... I wouldn't dare to write in the Finnish thread yet,but I'll keep on studying hard and I'll tell you my progress =) you really cheer me up to keep on studying and not quit bye guys! näkemiin!! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Just a piece of advice about writing a/ä...put the dots above ä and ö after writing the letter, not after writing the whole word.. Because if you first write them without the dots, you look at the word written in the wrong way for a few seconds, and that might cause you to remember it this way :/ I still write tarkea instead of tärkeä sometimes :(
