Yeh, that's what I meant. It seems to me that Indonesian is a bit underestimated though, and very few people seem to have an interest in learning it. According to wikipedia it has 250+ million speakers in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Southern Philippines, Southern Thailand, East Timor, Australia, Suriname, New Caledonia, Netherlands and United States. That's way more than Japanese, Korean, Thai etc. which seem to be far more popular.

I warrant it's because Japanese, Korean, & even Thai culture are much more familiar to people outside of the Malay Archipelago due to media exposure.

So, what language did you end up learning? If it was Indonesian, I am ready to help you. I am its native speaker, after all. :)
