Holy crap, I do not understand this kind of language, it is full of riming, archaisms, endearing terms and I know not what. Heavy stuff for a beginner.
So choose your first books careful, the label "children" does not mean it is easy.

This made me laugh - you're so right, Cabaire. My wife brought a stack of thin children's books back from Russia years ago, and I thought, "great, lots of colourful pictures and big friendly writing, this will be a doddle"...that is until I opened the first page and actually started to try and read the words!
