iKnow! is a really great looking site for learning English & Japanese.
There are three main applications: iKnow!, Dictation & BrainSpeed.
iKnow! is based around learning vocab, with pictures, audio and sample sentences. It introduces vocab then tests you later on, it seems like it uses a Leitner-style system of spacing the reviews.
Dictation gives you an imcomplete sentence, you hear the complete sentence & then you have to write in the missing word in the time limit.
BrainSpeed tests you on words & phrases. It speeds up when you get an answer correct and slows down when you get one wrong. The objective is to see how fast you can get.
There is also a mobile application for Japanese users and a podcast.
The above applications can be used with any of the course, lists or items (individual words & phrases).
There are 10 courses so far for learning Japanese, from beginner to lower-intermediate, each one teaches 200 words/phrases. You can also select to study in romaji, kana or kanji mode.
There are English courses for Japanese speakers, from beginner to advanced level, for studying for tests etc, 73 in total.
There are also English courses for English speakers, either for increasing your vocabulary or studying for SATs.
Then there are lists, a lot made by users of the site, for learning different vocabulary lists. E.g. there's one for learning English phrases you might use in writing a diary, and another for business vocab.
Anyway, it looks pretty nice. I had a go on the demo Japanese course, and it was pretty fun, if a bit easy for me. What does everyone else think?

Thanks very much. It is a new website, and it was only for Japanese native speakers helping them learning English. Only this month they add the Japanese courses for English speakers.
The good news is that next month, they will add an additional 4000 words to the current 2000 (or they will add new 2000 so the total will be 4000).
If your vocabulary reach the 4000 most common words, it means your level is intermediate and you can improve your speaking and reading skills easily without much problems.

I've been using iKnow! as a review and find it a lot of fun. The problem is, the last stage of testing you on a word is to type it. There's a word I can't type. In romanji it's "tsuzuku".
The program will keep throwing the word back up at me unless I type it correctly so could somebody tell me how to type づ ? I type it (in romanji) and it gives me "つずく".
Let me know! If not let me know how I can get the program to drop the word. Thanks!

Hi Sunja.
I had trouble with Tsuzuku too at first. It turns out that instead of 'tsuzuku' you have to replace the 'zu' with 'du' so it becomes 'tsuduku'.
It tells you this and other things in the FAQ : http://www.iknow.co.jp/faq .
Hope this helps.

Thanks, cookie doll.
I get hung up on the romanji spellings sometimes. I actually know the kanji and that's the most important thing for me. (I just discovered that you can also delete the ones you already know from the Item Preview Screen.) Thanks for the FAQ. I may need it. I suppose I should read it first. I just tend to disregard that stuff and go straight to playing! ;)

Sunja, if you use the dictation, you will face a problem when you write the particle 'wa'. You must write it 'ha'.

Oh yes, I'm aware of that one at least :)
It's a bit risky using the MS Language Option because if I don't know the kanji but I know the word orally, I could mispell "bank", for example - "ginko" - and get 吟子 instead of 銀行 !
I guess that's why the Japanese Thread in the Multilingual Lounge is so quiet.
