Hey Sunja, actually you wouldn't ever get 吟子 instead of 銀行 because they actually have different pronunciations (吟子-ぎんこ, 銀行-ぎんこう).
When I don't know the kanji for a word I just spell it in kana. I have had a few times when I've guessed the kanji for words and ended up with something completely wrong. e.g. 英画 instead of 映画 (えいが), I'd got it from 英語 (えいご). Well, the pronunciation was the same! (>_<)
Also, if you type out the whole word before pressing space bar you normally get the correct kanji first time.

I'm hovering around the intermediate level (Dictation). The sentences are starting to get more complicated and I'm thinking about doing some extra dictation using a recording of my own voice reading from different passages.
It's really great for training listening and grammar skills. Anybody else tried the Dictation program?

Good news for more advanced Japanese learners!
iKnow has just added an intermediate set of courses: Japanese Core 6000, with 8 different courses.
And for those who don't know kana yet there are now 2 new courses for learning hiragana and katakana.
:)

This is a seriously impressive tool. I wonder if they have any plans to extend it to more languages as well as just English-Japanese.

I've just had a look at their blog and I found these few hints:

With our new Japanese courses debuting at our international release on September 9, we’re proud to offer the first of many non-English languages you’ll soon be able to learn at iKnow! |
