Konnichi wa!

I thought I'd make a thread to gauge interest in 日本手話 (Japanese Sign Language, also abbreviated NS, from the Japanese name for it, "nihonshuwa).

I love the grammar of JSL. I love it's use of particles and things, and the fact that it's a separate family from FSL is really cool, almost everything is so different.

Here are links I've found for JSL:

Some short "lessons" (in English)

What seems like a pretty comprehensive online course (in Japanese)

JSL video course (in ASL with English subtitles)

Various links for JSL

Using the videos from the second link, I'm making a PowerPoint Presentation that is a lot like Dr. Bill Vicar's new website, ASL.tc. If anyone is interested, I can share it.

Each lesson is laid out with a sentence video, then the signs contained in the video to follow, unless that sign has already been introduced. I think soon I will re-shoot the videos, since the ones in the course are so small, so it's hard to make out what some signs are.

So far I have 10 lessons completed, and am working on more. So far it teaches about 50 signs, and I am only about 1/7 done, so there are plenty more to come.

Here's the link to my course.

(I have posted this thread on Unilang too, but have gotten no replies, so I was hoping I might get some here.)

This is nice! Thanks for posting the links. I actually wanted to learn Japanese sign
language eversince I saw the Jdorama SIGN (with Shibasaki Kou). She plays the central
character who lost her hearing and can only communicate through sign language. The people
around her had to use sign with her all the time. It's a good Jdorama and it might
inspire you all to study sign too :)
