I found Hans Boas on Texas-German. It's pretty interesting to hear the older lady (about 80) speak during the interview. "Was haben sie das Kind ge-heißt." (instead of "genannt")
I'm originally from Texas and to me, the dialect is definitely more -texanized- than it is German. Mr. Boas explains that well, they way -ü- in "über" is spoken as "eber". What's nice is the way the folks hang on to their culture. The Texas-Germans are more proud to be German than the Germans themselves, I think ;) But it's more of a nostaglia and doesn't have much to do with modern Germany. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

The examples in the video remind me of the German I heard as I was growing up in Wisconsin. Oddly
enough, I'm now living in Texas. And I have heard some German spoken here. The German-Texan Heritage Society and the Texas German Society are two organizations devoted to promoting the culture and language. 1 person has voted this message useful |
