I wish to begin studying Spanish, and I'd like to use Assimil and Michel Thomas. The
thing is, I know Assimil is European Spanish but I'm not sure what kind of Spanish MT is?

Can anyone help shed some light on the situation?

Thanks

He describes it as Standard Spanish and contrasts this with Castilian Spanish "spoken in parts of Spain." I'm not massively familiar with the dialects of Spanish, so I have no idea if that's useful.

I bet I'm not the only one who thought the topic title was "What kind of Spanish is spoken in MONTANA?"

And of course, the answer is, it's very similar to the Spanish dialect spoken in North Dakota.    ;-)

Oops.

Yeah, sorry, I'm from the South of England, Great Britain and you're only allowed a
certain number of characters in your topic title.

Michel Thomas has a distinct non-native accent.

It's not the accent I'm worried about, it's the content.

I can generally imitate accents well, but only in the actual language (I can't speak
English in other accents very well).

EDIT: my worry is more whether or not he teaches Spanish different to spoken on the
continent or in Latin America.

Don't worry. It is plain and simple Spanish. I don't think it could be described as anything other than non-native Spanish.

If it says "vosotros", then it's European, and if you hear "ustedes" very often, it's Latin American. However, I
think you don't need to worry about that yet because the basics is nearly the same.
