I've noticed that Korean is one of the most popular target languages here.
For me it seems completely exotic language, so I'm a bit puzzled why so many of you have chosen this language to learn.
Could you enlighten me? ;))

I don't know why, but I think its because its reputed to be the hardest language for speakers of Indo-European languages to learn =P

I dont disagree, (I can't agree, I haven't heard the language=) )coitoergosum, but I reckon the same could be said for a great many other languages aswell, after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in other words completely subjective so its unlikely that one language will be chosen for its beauty alone more than others, especially one spoken so far away from the majority of the users countries (I think I'm right in thinking that most of the users are European and American), so the interest is probably largely due to the assumed difficulty, which is what could make many people see it as beautiful, unless theres another feature of Korean, or Korea's culture that I am unaware of.
Saying all that though I don't really know anything on the topic =P

suppose because of the chic factor.
consider also that many people are backed off with the the treatment japanese gets ("wait, you learn japanese?! so you watch anime?! kawaii") so they're trying to look for an alternative.

i personally like korean because of the korean culture and the sound of the language, plus, hangeul looks really nice. however, i've yet to find great literature in korean...

I'm learning Korean because it sounds great, the culture is similar but different to Chinese, I love Hangeul, it's fun and different, and because Korean popculture is cool too!

But is it one of the more popular languages here? It doesn't feel like it to me...
