I don't know how popular it is outside this very forum, but perhaps Professor Arguelles has inspired some people here? Having learned 20+ languages and stating that Korean is definitely the most challenging tongue he had studied; well, that made at least me interested in this language!

I always get asked this question, and I can never really answer. I'm interested in learning Korean because it's so different, and because the more I learn, the more I want to learn.

Beautiful doesn't mean that something is useful.

PS: It seems you're trolling. Are you really so bored that you need to troll a language forum?

"Beautiful doesn't mean that something is useful."

That very well hinges on one's conception of utility, does it not?

I wasn't being facetious. There's more great Korean lit than you can explore in a lifetime. The biggest problem is that most of it is utterly untranslatable. Take this famous and oft anthologised short story for example. Take a peek if your Korean's up to level.

The description of a language as "useful" isn't open to much interpretation. It means that you will somehow benefit from the language in a practical sense. Beauty has absolutely no relevance to that, as a language can only be useful if 1) it is used, and 2) you have contact with it (ie. via people that speak it, or literature in which it is written).

You could certainly describe a language as enjoyable or fun due soley to its beauty, but using the word "useful" in that context would be incorrect.
