I am wondering if any of you have use this book or any Méthode 90 or Le XX en 90 jours ?

I will write down some observations about the method. After that, I will ask some question about the way I could use that method anf if it a good one for me.

I using this method at the moment and I have some doubt the «right way» to use this book. For instance, it's suppose to be one lesson per day. On average, you have to learn 25-30 new words that you should be able, at the end of the lesson, to use in fill the blank exercices, French to Russian traduction and Russian to French traduction exercises. There are some kind of repetions in the following lessons to anchor the word in your memory.

Also, they are, in average, 4-5 grammars rules to learn per lesson. I find it hard to understand and to be able to use the rules in the following exercice. For instance, chapter 13 is on the Genetive case. After this chapter, I should be able to understand the use of the Genetive case, which I pretty much understand but they expect us to be able to decline correctly the noun, the adjectif and some pronoms in that case.

Finaly, I should be able to achieve that in one hour per day. For your information, the first 25 lessons are really the basic grammar. After that lesson 26-75 are for vocabulary acquisition with some brief or exception rules. Lesson 76 to 90 are optionnal, they are short passages of Russian litterature.

So, I am wondering, is it a bad method for a false-begginner in Russian ? What are your impression on this method ?
Should I simply go ahead and hope things will fall in place ?
Should I do the first 25 lessons, make sure I assimilate and understand all the grammar rules and a good portion of the vocabulary before moving on ?
Should I change my method again (I tried assimil : le nouveau Russe sans peine without much success event though I finished it, but this one is considered badly done) ?
Should I reconsider the way I study ?
And finally, should I consider drill oriented method even though I am more of an analytical mind since I like to understand why something is working that way ?

For the curious who have no idea what this method look like:
Methode 90 - Russe

Thank you

I don't know about the Russian version, but I learnt German with this method. I actually really enjoyed it. At the time, I simply did as much as I could without caring about the way the lessons were divided.

If you're a false beginner, just start from scratch and work your way up.

I guess I might had overreacted. I want to so badly to be able to learn that language and my past 'failure' with Assimil didn't help my confidence in myself and on learning materials.

I will simply do as much as I could.

If I see that I am unable to learn some grammars rules after a period of time, I will check in others books for my answers. If it's still unclear, I will drill it till it become clear.

I have to say that the grammar explanation are really clear in this book but I don't understand why they put the exemples and explanations in cursive writing.

Thanks

I don't know about the russian version, but I tried the chinese one and I am really satisfied. However when I began it
I had already a A2 level (I think). And since there are many words to learn in the lessons (include the early ones), I
believe it would be very difficult to start with it for a complete beginner. What's more, from the beginning you get
a great wave of rules and grammar. But you are a false beginner, so I think you're able to overcome that.
For the chinese version, my advice would have been to do a great deal of effort for the first part of the book and
then go on. If you think that your russian version is like the chinese one (about difficulty), then try to do that.

Bonne chance compatriglotte :)

I saw the name in the thread Where to buy Assimil? and happened to find a Méthode 90 book at a second hand bookstore here in town (funnily enough, I can't remember the language - either French or Spanish).

In my opinion, Allemand-90 was the best title in the old editions. Anglais-90 and Neerlandais-90 were rather good too. The other titles (especially Italian) were less interesting.

Russian 90 is a very academic progression in 90 lessons (better than Italien 90, but less good than Allemand 90) for French speaking people.

In spite of a new title -- Le russe - Pratique de base is the same book than Le russe en 90 lecons et en 90 jours.

Méthode 90 is one of my favorite series, but it's a bit too hard for a beginner. Assimil is more user-friendly, containing half of the words and audio.
