I'm curious which smart phones people use for language learning. I recently purchased the latest Sony walkman, but it doesn't allow me to add pdf or html files to it. I can upload movies and watch them, listen to audiobooks, etc.. But for some content I would like to follow along with the text. My guess is the smart phones have most of this capability. I would be interested in hearing your experiences.
The main functionality that interests me is: Audio player. Ability to browse html or read pdf files while listening to audio. Video player. Storage capacity. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

It's hard to recommend anything other than an iPhone or iPod Touch. I use my iPod everywhere I go, and I have it
loaded with excellent dictionaries that let me look up anything on the spot. It has a large selection of multilingual keyboards and the best mobile web browser available. Converting video to MP4 is the only headache, but there are plenty of apps that take care of that for you. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

which apps do you use on your itouch? I've got an iPhone and I'd love to be able to use it for language learning :P

French English Dictionary by Cole Zhu version 2.0.2 French-English Translation Dictionary by Ultralingua version 1.2 Van Dale Dutch-English & English-Dutch dictionary by Paragon Technologie GmbH version 2.22 Van Dale Dutch explanatory dictionary by Paragon Technologie GmbH version 2.22 WordBook English Dictionary & Thesaurus by TransCreative Software version 3.6 I have other apps on the device, but these are the ones I use for language learning. On the iTouch or iPhone there are:
-- word of the day in 4 languages (World Words) and some excellent -- SRS card systems like Flash My Brain or gFlash+ (I can strongly recommend FmB, has a good collection or you can upload your own). on top of podcasts and dictionaries and to play language course material. 5 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Most of my apps are for Japanese (including several dictionaries and kanji quiz apps), but I'm also trying out a flashcard app called "Learn". The two dictionaries I mainly use have nice features like bookmarking, usage/example search, and the ability to touch any word on the page to see its dictionary entry. I assume that the best iPhone dictionaries for any language include these features. The ability to instantly switch between any language's keyboard and easily type diacritics (even from the English keyboard) really makes the iPhone or iPod Touch superior to smart phones with physical keyboards. 4 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I have found the Palm Treo or Centro to be a perfect language learning companion. It

At this point, I'd have to suggest an unlocked iPhone.
