Heute, regnet es.
Korean : Week 29 It was a nice learning week and I was able to study a bit more than usual thanks to the 1st of May... Or that I would like to say. I actually did study well on the 1st, but yesterday, I was "killed" by my computer (and also by the fact that I went to bed later than usual on Friday). Anyway. A few happy things. I did the first text and the 2 dialogues of my Integrated Korean (AI-I:Advanced Intermediate I) and I was able to understand both of the dialogues pretty well (after listening to them). For the text, it was different though. Lot of unknown words and... well. But I was still able to understand what the narrator was talking about. After reading the text, it was clearer too. I like the different texts they use cause it's related to Korean culture. This one was about 추석. I often heard about it, but until now, I hadn't really searched what it was all about. So, it's "一石二鳥" / "일석이조". I can learn the language while learning about the culture. That's very nice. I'm also amazed and in the same time ashamed that I didn't know such words as "놀이" (play/game), less ashamed that I didn't know "오락" (amusement, entertainment), even though I could have guessed it from Japanese (娯楽). I often think that I miss some basic vocabulary. Maybe I didn't do the basic lessons thoroughly in the past. I've also decided to not try to finish one lesson per week for this particular book. There are so much information in one lesson, that I would miss a lot if I really want to do one lesson a week. I'll just do it until I feel I can go to the next. And one last thing. I've started to use Ankidroid (95 cars so far). German : Week 9 Wow! So, it has been already 9 weeks since I started my Assimil book. I've just realized now. 9 weeks already... This week, I did lessons 41 to 44. I'm still doing 4 lessons a week, preparing it during the weekend (kind of a warm up) and then I do once a day, from Monday to Thursday. I still find it good even though text are becoming a bit longer and a bit more difficult (well, hopefully, I guess!). I möchte etwas Deutsch schreiben, aber ich bin nicht sehr Gut. Warum heute regnet es? Ich bin sehr müde und Ich möchte jetzt ein Spaziergang machen. Ach... Ich habe auch Hunger. Wohlen sie mir, bitte, etwas zu essen machen? Ich warte sie. Kein Problem! Kommen sie jetzt nach Frankfurt. Essen wir zusammen! Hindi : Week 4 Well, well, well. I'm also happy with my Hindi. I talked a bit with my neighbour on Friday evening and he understood my "यह कमरा बहुत बड़ा है". Hopefully, the room was indeed big. I can now tell the difference between singular and plural when I see "है" and "हैं". That's a beginning. I still don't know how to type "pointed letter" like "ड़ा" and still have to use the virtual keyboard to enter it. I guess I'll have to do more research on the net to find it out. I also wanted to use Ankidroid for Hindi but it seems like Android doesn't support Devanagari script by default. I guess I'll have to wait until they fix it. Too bad. While I admittedly don't have any valuable comments to offer, I wanted to say I admire your discipline and study
regimen. Spending four hours per day on Korean alone, and still finding the time to study German, Hindi and keeping your Japanese alive is quite impressive. Also, finding a natural sleeping rhythm where you can wake up early each morning without an alarm clock sound ideal. I've already managed to get into the habit of getting out of bed at 6:30, but I can't do it without an alarm clock. Good luck in your studies! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Hmm...I hadn't heard of "오락" either until I read your post (though I do recognize the 樂 character from my Hanja studies). For what it is worth, on the "6000 Essential Korean Vocabulary" list, 놀이 is rated as a "B" word and 오락 is a "C" word, so the former is indeed more common. I've seen 놀이 (related to "놀다 = to play, hang out") used quite a bit in compound words such as 놀이공원(~~公園; amusement park). Hello Maux and thanks for leaving a message. I just spend most of my free time studying languages (I also do a bit of workout and stretching in the morning, it's part of my "routine"). I think I can study that much cause I have everything I need to be able to keep this pace. I live alone, have now a stable work, and have found "the way" I want to spend my free time. I was often saying to myself in the past "if only I had a clear goal, I'm sure I could spend hours working to reach this goal". I guess I found it or found one. Recently, I do have some kind of natural alarm clock. The birds outside wake up around 4h45 and sing so I'm also waking up at the same time. Sometimes, it's a bit tough, even for me. I also can wake up early cause I go to be early (usually between 9 and 10PM). Thanks a lot :) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Merci ! It's true that when I saw the word, I guessed it was related to "놀다" but when I heard it, I didn't. It often happens it seems. I first listen to the sentence several times but cannot understand it very well, then I read the text and it becomes clearer. It's almost time to go to bed for me (9:30PM) so I'll sum up this week quickly.
First, I have to say that I was a bit upset cause I couldn't study that much on Tuesday evening... Why? Because I had electricity problems and I had to wait for the electrician to come and to see what was going on. So, no Hindi and no Japanese on Tuesday :/ Also, I was dead on Thursday evening and went to bed at 9PM. I did my Hindi lesson half asleep :/ Korean : Week 30 Good week. I'm happy with my choice of going slower for the Integrated Korean course. I did the third lesson thoroughly and I feel like I've learned a lot. I think I've once again learn words or expressions that I should have known before like '만에' (10분 만에...) or '매진'. Anyway, I know it now and don't think I'll ever forget it. My Anki deck has now 191 cards (words + sentences). I've started to read a book (from the start, I can say it's going to be a really good book) about Korean history and culture called "Sources of Korean Tradition". As I don't have much time, I'll read it slowly. I like all those kingdoms story. And for some reasons, I like this name, "Silla". Oh, I like Choson too. German : Week 10 Continuing Assimil, 4 lessons a week. I still think dialogues are longer and longer and... Oh, but, yeah, that's OK. I've prepared lessons 48 to 52 during the weekend. I'm ready for another great week. And the so-called second wave. I actually wanted to do it earlier (and did for the first 8 lessons) but I didn't have enough time. I think I still remember the first few lessons clearly. Oh, this weekend, I also reread the text from lesson 4 to 20. And one nice thing... I went to an Indian grocery shop yesterday to buy some spices and understood "Leider nicht". Yes, it's nothing, but I was happy to be able to understand a few words. Hindi : Week 5 Still going slowly. But that's OK. I've been listening to the text of the exercise and trying to copy eat. Listening to it over and over again, I feel like I can grasp the meaning, even without knowing the vocab. Weird but nice. Working time and notes Korean : 20h German : 9h Hindi : 3h Note: I was about to order a few books to learn Mandarin but I was able to resist! This is becoming harder and harder. Bonsoir everyone.
Quick sum up. This Thursday was a day off, so I was able to study a bit more than usual, during the week. During the weekend, I've studied a bit less though :D Korean : Week 31 I feel like I'm progressing faster these days, especially thanks to the Integrated Korean book. Lesson 4 done this week. I just to review it and then I'll also review lesson 2 of the book before going to the 5th. My Anki deck has 283 cards. I'm doing well so far. German : Week 11 I've studied lessons 49 to 52. Doing one lesson in 30 minutes in kinda difficult now. I usually do some "overtime". Yesterday, I was out to buy some Indian spices but the Polizei was blocking the streets because of "the" demonstration. I was able to do some listening exercises. One guy kept on saying "verboten". I also read some slogans here and there "Deine Freiheit is nicht meine Freiheit". Good day. Hindi : Week 6 So, I got myself the Assimil book. I found it really well done for German, so I wanted to try it for Hindi. I'm planning to study with both the Teach Yourself book and the Assimil book. I've noticed that I need to see a word or an expression in 3 different contexts to remember it. That would do already two. I already know that I'll never forget how to say "but" :D Working time and notes Korean : 19h German : 7h Hindi : 4h That's all for today. Use a capital letter if you have a noun, substantive or name. For example Das Haus ist grün. Mein Nanme ist Mareike. But Ich habe durst. Ich bin hungrig und müde. Einen Spaziergang it's the accusativ case hier. Wen oder Was möchtest du machen? Einen Spaziergang. Maybe a little bit too grammatical. Warum regnet es heute?
