As a foreign languages major at my college, romance languages in specific, I thought I
would broaden my horizons a bit and besides just sticking to the romance languages which
is a requirement, I am considering adding Russian as a minor. As I know nothing about
Russian, I was going to enroll in the beginning Russian class for next semester but
noticed that the in-person class didn't fit with my schedule and the only other
alternative was taking it online. Has anyone else ever tried learning a language through
a college online setting? If so, what did you think of it? Or if that isn't the case and
if anyone has any recommendations for online language learning, particularly Russian,
feel free to share. I appreciate any feedback.

Hi Cheshire, may I ask what college you would be taking the college course at? Online
courses vary widely. Some are very good tying in Skype/Video Chats among other things.

Yeah, I will be taking the course at the College of Southern Nevada. It is only a two-
year college, but afterwards I plan on transferring to a 4-year university where I will
get my Bachelor's in Romance Languages.

Here are some of the courses I was looking at myself:
http://japanese.gatech.edu/online/index.html
http://mgu-russian.com/programms/online-russian-course/en
I think you can definitely learn a lot, I would ask the professor for the course
syllabus. Check his/her ratings online and ask other students who have taken the course
for their feedback. Technology is wonderful, I myself love the traditional classroom for
many courses, but for some subjects online is just as good if not better.

Thanks for the info. I emailed the professor who will be teaching the class and she sent
me the syllabus. It's some program called MyRussianLab through Pearson, Inc. that will be
the textbook/online component for the class. I think I'll try it out and see how I go.
The class doesn't start until the end of August but thought to look into it now since
registration is somewhat soon. Thanks for the info and I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Cheshire,
Have you checked the sites for the publication?
http://www.pearsonhighered.com/educator/product/MYRUSSIANLAB /9780205786671.page
http://www.myrussianlab.com/
Looking through it myself, I am curious what other institutions use this resource.

Actually I haven't checked out those sites but thanks for posting them. I will definitely
give them a look and see. My college in specific for some reason offers many languages
both in online format and in-person format.
