I’ve enjoyed prior posts on this site re resources for studying Bengali -- a beautiful language – and I thought I’d share a few I’ve come across . No claim to be definitive or exhaustive – just a few things I’ve found helpful.

Much has been already posted about the standard Radice and Dimock texts – both of which I agree are indispensable. (Be sure to download the audio for the Dimock text. They amount to many, many hours of audio – good old-time pedagogy in forms of drills for the serious-minded.)

But I’ve seen little mention here of the “Part 2” to the Dimock text:
“An Introduction to Bengali, Part II: Introductory Bengali Reader” by Somdev Bhattacharji (Univ. of Chicago 1988). I originally got a copy on Amazon, though I don’t see any available there now (2/2013). But you’ll find a download link for it on this site: https://sites.google.com/site/soyouwanttolearnalanguage/beng ali

The Part 2 text very methodically develops your skills with reading the script. It’s made all the difference for me.

On the intermediate level, Clinton Seely’s “Intermediate Bangla” looks very solid and meaty (approx. 400 pp.) -- and quite a leap from the prior texts. In the foreword the author mentions that he assumes you’ve finished Part 1 and Part 2 of “Introduction to Bengali” mentioned above. A download link is on the same URL given above.

Also designed for the intermediate level is “A Bengali Prose Reader (For Second-Year Students).” (Dimock, Bhattacharji, Inden, John, and Seely.) Download link is on same page as URL given above.
