Dunwoody Press has a series of newspaper readers, usually with audio available. Each selection has a translation, vocabulary and notes. The press focuses on languages with less resources, so the most common language they have is Hindi.

Note: I haven't used any of these books (yet), but the Hindi Newspaper Reader has a very good reputation in the Hindi language learning community.

Reading a newspaper can be easier depending on the language. Some language like French or Spanish you can
read product labels and know what is in the product. But if you hear the same words being spoken by a native,
you may have trouble picking it up. The person may be speaking rather quickly and the sounds of words may not
too familiar. At least reading will give you a chance to absorb the material at your own pace.
For most languages I find the online version of text better than a paper copy of a newspaper or magazine. I can
have 1 screen open with a dictionary and simply cut & paste the unfamiliar text and get an answer than flip
through a dictionary or even have to type the words in without typing mistakes. For a language like Chinese it is
much faster to cut & paste characters to a dictionary for quick look-up.
