Today I finished both Unit 1's of Teach Yourself and FSI. I feel like having listened
to the recordings quite a few times that I am getting more and more used to the sounds
of the language - but at the same time it can be quite hard to tell words apart. I
suppose this is just something that comes easier with time.
Memrise has been really helpful in ingrained vocabulary into my brain, but
frustratingly I am finding that whilst i might 'know' a word, often my brain is to slow
to 'click', and I'll sit there for 10 seconds before it pops into my head. I think
what's needed is constantly putting the new vocabulary into practice, so I'm looking to
do more work on my written and spoken skills. I've heard that lang8 is good for getting
written work reviewed so I'll give that a go.
Next week I plan to get started on the second Units of both course, listen to some
Swedish radio (even if i can't make sense of much at all), practice my new vocabulary
by working on writing my own sentences, and above all, finding our more about Sweden. I
spent a few hours today watching YouTube videos about Sweden when i should be studying
the language! Still I suppose it helps to have a fascination with the country. Also, in
an attempt to try and give myself some kind of realistic target, I'd like to get myself
up to a good A2/B1 standard by July next year. Is this realistic? My ultimate aim with
Swedish is to one day be able to read Swedish book, watch Swedish TV without the
subtitles and generally understand most everyday Swedish.
As always, thanks for reading! Tack! :)
