I'm just checking in here to say that I haven't fallen off the program. But for now I'm working on a 900 Finnish word list that I extracted from TY Finnish. So I'm listening to the TY Finnish CD and working on this Anki deck with words from the entire book at the same time. I still do a frightening number of card fails on Finnish words, literally 100+ fails on each word, so I have to turn off the leach algorithm -- though this is how it was with me with Japanese also.
I just started another semester of the reading class at the Sokogakuen, and this class is pretty challenging, so it's keeping me on the ball with Japanese.
I have been obsessively reading Japanese news on the web. And also I've been experimenting with reading the Selkouutiset news in Finnish first thing in the morning with no dictionary.

Cathryn, in your study research, have you found any Japanese news that would be of equivalent level to Selkouutiset? I adore Selkouutiset, and I'd love to find a similar thing in Japanese if it existed. (I also asked this question somewhere else in the forum, but had no luck there.)
Also, is it okay to PM you? I am most passionate about my Finnish, but I am right now most actively studying Japanese. It would be nice to talk to someone who can understand the enthusiasm for both.

You are crazy!
As a native finnish speaker I know how hard that language could be. I read some of your writings and I was surprised how good it was. Of course, there's always some mistakes when you're learning a new language, but all in all it's very understandable.
It's better than google translator and better than the most of the pizzeria keepers here in Finland ;)

I wish you success studying for the 2N! (Did I read correctly, you're prepping for the N2,right? Sorry, my Japanese is really rusty!)
