I also had problems finding interesting music in Japanese. I don't really listen to modern music in
any language, so modern Japanese music didn't appear to me neither. However I found a few
older bands I like. Namely ザ・スパイダース, 憂歌団 and 美空ひばり. Just one tip, look for older
recordings, because some bands change over time, like the Rolling Stones for example.

Hmmmm... I like a variety of music styles. My favorite bands and singers, in no particular order, are Bob Marley, Justin Timberlake, N.E.R.D., Nirvana, Bruno Mars, Craig David, Jamiroquai, and A Tribe Called Quest. In general, I'm really picky about pop music, but I will listen to almost any kind of reggae, jazz, samba or bossa nova.

I tend to be very classical, so I won't bore you with my general music tastes. As Japanese goes, I remember I liked 修羅の花 and 怨み節 a lot when Kill Bill hit the theaters, so I'm sure there's many more songs by Meiko Kaji that I'll like... when I get the time to look them up. Might be worth a try if you remember them from Kill Bill (and you liked them) too.
I also got a very good album of traditional (or -like) music from one of my Japanese friends, but I'd have to scan the covers, because I can't read anything on it so typing it here is out of the question.
Mmmh, come to think of it, what a useless post! I've written it already, though, so... :)

Hmmm... might have to look at more classical-type music.
By the way, I was half-kidding about my "challenge proposal." I know you all have a lot to do in your lives without worrying about choosing songs I may or may not like. :P

Pity the challenge is off. I can't get away from this one right now:

I've also found that there are plenty of Japanese drum albums on youtube and I've started
to play those in the background at work lately.

I stumbled on a couple of online resources hosted by the University of Texas in Austin including Cultural Interviews with Japanese-Speaking Professionals which you may find handy for improving your passive abilities in business register.

Hi guys,
it's Josquin! I was forced to create a new account, because the old one was disabled in the course of HTLAL's Crimean crisis, which took place in the team thread of Team Katyusha. As you can see, I'm a total newbie again, but I suppose I'll have to live with that. For further information on what happened, please check my log. Maybe mrwarper could also change my name in the first post of this thread. ありがとう!
Josquin
