No log for me for the moment.
I find quite difficult the first lessons of FSI because I wasn't used to this kind of practice. After a dozen lessons
and some rewiewing I find it much easier.
For the active wave of assimil (I'm doing it for my German learning), I find it effective to do each day a new
lesson and then go backwards and also translate the 9 latest lessons. |

I am a little discouraged with FSI at the moment but I think I will persevere if you think it get easier to do the drills after a dozen lessons. For the active wave, it's going ok but I still find they put too much idioms in the lessons. I would need after my first completion to reread it, too find what I didn't get the first time.

2/3/13 to 8/3/13
GOALS
Assimil - 70-76
Read chapter 7-8 of HP2 with audio
I am in vacation and I got a big French exam coming up this saturday. So, I am keeping my Spanish to a bare minimum and I am putting my effort in French instead.

I decided to not complete FSI because I find it really not fun and it,s more an exercise of frustration than anything else.
Also, since I am able to read novels, I can acquire vocabulary. I started to watch movies in Spanish. My comprehension is getting a little better. I write from time to time but I am hoping to be able to write a 200 words every 2/3 days in the near future.
I just need to spend time practicing and my speaking ability should go up a lot. So, I will put my time in effort into those activities instead of FSI.

I think you're doing the right thing. Doing something you don't enjoy would lead you right into a wall, putting
you off.
For my English vocabulary, I began my first page of "goldlist", with the article I read today. If you're not into
flashcards for your studies, you could give it a go.

I thought French was your native language !

I am using Ivernson wordlist method for my vocabulary. It work very well for me if I saw that word before.
As for French, it's a really difficult test to be accepted in a teaching program. I need 80% to be accepted. So, I am doing a lot of revision and nailing down exceptions, etc.

It's been a long time since I made a update. A lot of things have happen between.
First, I have been accepted in my teaching program (yah!).
I finished my Assimil course. At the moment, I am revising it to pick up all the still unknown words and the rules I might have forgot.
I'm still doing some vocabulary works but I primarly read a lot. I try to watch some movies/tv shows as well in Spanish.
Next week, I will try to post a more accurate planning that I currently have. With weekly objective, I seem to do more works done.

Nice log, keep up the good work. That Assimil course is not yet available with an English base so I was not able to use it. It sounds like you liked it.
I note you said you used the French based MT course. I was not aware that MT was available in non-English bases. Where does one find those courses? Do you have any idea of they make Spanish based MT courses?
On FSI, don't do it if it is too painful. But, be sure you give it a shot after you have advanced a bit. I think it is an absolutely awesome course and doing it as an intermediate when you can focus on just the drills (without having to think as much about the vocab and grammar) would be great. Good luck.

It's been a while since I last updated my logbook. I continued my journey into Spanish. I made great progress. Here the highlights.
1- Assimil l'espagnol (2008) - FINISH
2- Practice makes Perfect - 95/100% FINISH
3- Michel Thomas foundation and advance - FINISH
4- Assimil l'espagnol sans peine (1981) - Will be finish in less than 10 days.
5- Written 85 first lesson from French to Spanish Assimil (2008)
6- I was able to have meaning full conversations while I was in Mexico for 2 weeks.
7- Read the whole Harry Potter serie in Spanish
What I need to work on:
1- Subjonctif
2- Speak more
3- Irregular verbs
Those three are the most important aspects at the moment.
