Have you heard about the goldlist method ? It seems quite effective. You'll find all the explanation there :

Thank you for your comments. Right now, I don't have enough time to read daily, but I'll do my best to include a 10-minute reading session to my regimen soon. I need to learn more vocabulary first so I won't do this right away.
I've heard of the Goldlist and thought about using it but I like flash cards too much to change methods (and I have notebooks now anyway).
DAY 4:
It's past midnight but I'm done making my flash cards for the day. I ended up making only 20 flash cards, but I copied around 50 words into my notebook. I'll learn the other words tomorrow.
Right now, I'm learning the name of farm animals (and there are a lot of them).
By midday, I had already reviewed all of my old flash cards. I'd say my retention rate is about 95% right now, which is great. I'll review all the words again tomorrow.
I watched Undercover Boss USA and the end of an episode of Murder, She Wrote. I also listened to Effortless English Podcast for 1 hour and 20 minutes. I'd say that's about 2 hours and 35 minutes of listening. While I'm a bit disappointed with this low "score", I need to keep in mind that I spend several hours on vocabulary every day. Moreover, all I wanted to do was watch one single episode of a show, and I did just that.
GOALS FOR DAY 5:
Even if I don't do anything else, I need to review all of the words I've learned so far. This is very, very important.
I also need to make at least 30 flash cards.
I'll also open my two picture dictionaries for a few minutes in order to review the words I've learned so far.
OTHER GOALS:
Listen to Effortless English Podcast for at least 20 minutes.
Watch one episode of any show.

DAY 5:
It's 1 p.m. and I'm already done with my daily goals (!).
I made around 40 new flash cards and learned them all. I also reviewed the flash cards I learned yesterday. All I have left to do is to keep learning these new words, and maybe also review my "trees" vocabulary.
I might make more flash cards later. After all, I'm going back to university tomorrow so I'll have much less time to myself.
I also watched Frasier on C4 (for 25 minutes) and I listened to NPR for 1 hour and 35 minutes. That's already 2 hours of listening!

DAY 5 part 2:
I've now raked in 3 hours of listening. I've copied down around 50 new words but I haven't looked up their pronunciations yet. I spent a long time adding new words to my list, including words that I heard in podcasts.
I also repeated all the old words I've learned since last week. I feel like my pronunciation of these words is improving a little bit.
I now have around 200 flash cards, which is a lot!

DAY 5 end:
No, I'm not a "three-day monk" as Khatz would say. :)
I'm still here! I just had a really busy day. I spent a lot of time watching TV and learning words yesterday. I watched several episodes of OUAT and Frasier and I also listened to a lot of podcasts. I think I must have raked in 4 hours of listening at least.
DAY 6:
I spent some time in the library. I had a lot of classes today so I wasn't able to make any new flash cards... but I reviewed ALL of my old flash cards. That's over 200 words! I'm really happy right now, because my retention rate is still high (95%+). I'll review these words every day until next Tuesday, but I'll stop reviewing the trees next Monday.
I'm hoping that by "overlearning" the words I won't forget them for a long time--even if I have to stop reviewing them for a while.
I also listened to a podcast and watch OUAT again. That's two hours of listening (I also used my mp3 player.)
DAY 7 GOALS:
Review all the words I've learned so far. No need to spend more than 3 seconds per words--this will realistically take me about 20 minutes to do. That's fine, since I'll have to commute and I also review flash cards while brushing my teeth.
Make at least 20 flash cards, preferably around 50.
Watch one episode of OUAT for listening comprehension practice, and passive vocabulary review.
Read translation books for at least an hour (or leaf through them... whatever, as long as I actually open them!)

DAY 7:
I haven't reviewed any vocabulary today and I haven't made new flash cards either (so far). However, I studied a book about translation for a good 30 minutes.
I also watched 2 episodes of OUAT and I listened to NPR for about 20 minutes. Since I also listened to some music, that's 2 hours total of immersion right there. Not bad on a busy day. :)
It's 11 P.M.--I'm extremely tired but I'll try to make a few flash cards and to review them while I'm brushing my teeth. I know it's not much, but every little word helps.
I made 14 new flash cards yesterday (on DAY 6) right before turning in for the day and I still remember those words.
GOALS FOR DAY 8:
Review all my flash cards. Make 20 new flash cards and learn them. Watch 2 episodes of OUAT (or maybe three, but then I'm out of episodes since the next one will be on this Sunday).
Use a translation book for at least 30 minutes.

DAY 8:
I reviewed around 100 flash cards and that's pretty much it. I listened to music for 30 minutes or so, but that doesn't really count.
I barely got any sleep and I've had a long week, so I'm off to bed. I'm pretty sure I haven't forgotten my flash cards in two days, so I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow. If I still know all the words, I'll review them every three days from now on, and save lots of time. :)

DAY 9:
I reviewed all of the words I've learned so far... and it was hard to remember them all.
I never should have taken a 2-day break from reviewing the flash cards, but I had no choice. I was much too tired because of college. :(
I think I spent over one hour reviewing, but I finally now them all again.
I watched US TV shows for 2 hours and 30 minutes. It's 6.15 P.M. right now, and I hope I'll have more time to work on my vocabulary.
