I have finished the Michel Thomas Beginner's Spanish course. I heartily recommend it as a starting point for new learners. I cannot speak to the issue of Thomas' accent, but the format of his correction of the students' pronunciation issues has I believe been of assistance to me.
The last two discs (discs 9 and 10) represent, as is the case with his other courses, a review of the material presented in the preceding eight discs. I was pretty successful in internalizing that material as most of it appeared to have stuck really well. I liked how he tackled verbs generally - made it very easy, even more so than with his French and German beginners material. The subjunctive was not addressed at all, presumably that will be taken up in the advanced materials. Goal by the middle of July is to self-test for the CEFR A1 level using whatever online testing material is available (which presumably does not include oral production testing), after pulling up my socks a bit and after having logged at least 200 hours study time while completing at least the following: - FSI Programmatic Course - Volumes 1 and 2 (50 units) - Michel Thomas Advanced (5 discs) - Living Language Ultimate Spanish (Basic-Intermediate) (40 units) - Spanish.about.com 12 week course (5 units) - BBC, Mi vida loca, 22 units - Destinos, 52 episodes Edited by Spanky on 15 May 2013 at 12:03am 1 person has voted this message useful | |
