It has been awhile since I last updated my log. The reasons for that are that I’ve been
traveling for 5 weeks through Russia, the Ukraine and Belarus, as well as some personal
difficulties when I got back ( I like to call it the post-holiday blues). My holiday
and the post-holiday blues did have an effect on the amount of study I was able to do
during that time. During my holidays I reviewed my ANKI-decks almost daily, but not
much new materials were added during this time. I did already preview unit 6 of Teach
Yourself Turkish and unit 2 of my Armenian study book. To catch up a bit, my goals for
this weekend are to complete unit 6 of Teach Yourself Turkish and start with the first
unit of Türkçe okuyorum. For Armenian I’ll redo the vocabulary in Teach, as I feel that
some of the more complicated vocabulary is slipping. Furthermore I will learn the
numerals covered in unit 1, as well as practising with the new letters covered in unit
2.

Unfortunately, lately wanderlust has roared its head. During my trip I was offered a
job in Belarus, which at the earliest I can only start next year, and because of that a
big urge to learn a third language emerged. During my stay in Belarus I noticed that I
could probably understand 80-90% of Belarusian and that in daily life it’s hardly used
at all. Despite the fact that there is a chance I can work there, it’s not a language
that attracts me much (although it does sound better than Russian). While I was staying
there I did notice a lot of Polish people and Lithuanians over there, because of that
(and historical ties between the three countries) I’m feeling an urge to learn either
Polish or Lithuanian. Of those two I’m slightly favouring Lithuanian, but I’ve not made
up my mind as of yet. I guess I’ll have to do a little experimenting with both
languages before I’m going to make a final decision.

On a side note; after seeing some TV-show with some of the characters speaking Hindi,
I’ve got a sudden urge to learn that as well…
