I found a great website http://www.learnchineseez.com/ that has free Cantonese lessons and they are a great supplement to the Pimsleur and TY material. If I am learning one thing, it is that audio is KING with Cantonese. The more audio the better.

The tones are really starting to click as well without having to concentrate on them. They just sort of ingrain into my brain as I hear them and repeat them. I probably have about 50 words at this point (15 or so verbs) and am able top put together pretty simple sentences and questions.

It is really different concentrating soley on speaking and listening to the exclusion of reading and writing, but I'm really enjoying the ride.

So, it's been awhile since I've updated, but I have been putting at an hour every day consistently into Cantonese. I am constantly reviewing the absolute beginner series on Cantoneseclass101.com and comparing my tones to the dialogs. I'm also on Chapter 6 of TY and I've been doing a lot of self talk with the very limited vocabulary that I have.

One thing I have starting doing is trying to find and memorize some "colloquial chunks" as I really want to learn more than just "textbook" Cantonese. I want to be able to understand and use some basic idiomatic expresions.

Memorizing vocab is much more difficult than German was because of the tones, so almost all of my memorizing comes from podcasts and self-talk.

I joined this Month's 6WC with Cantonese and I hope to get up to A1 or so by the end of it. I hope to be updating more often.
