People have suggested an eternal challenge before, which I want to avoid because it
encourages burn-out. 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off gives people more incentive to study hard.
I could create a similar site just for tracking personal hours, without the highscore
bit. It would require significant work though because people wouldn't have a single
target language anymore, wouldn't divide hours into target & "rest", would need to set
up a new app with a new Twitter bot and so on. I'm not sure there's enough interest to
make it worthwhile. |

I would agree that pulling the highscore points system off but using it for everyday tracking would make it very useful but I didn't realize that there was significant computing work to be done. If it is ever available I would use it as an alternative to a spreadsheet but if there isn't significant demand then the cost outweighs the benefit. I love this 6WC idea and look forward to joining others in the future. Thanks again for setting this up and making it available to all of us.

Hi all, my first post and already a challenge, lol. If it's not too late it's Spanish para mi. I should be
somewhere around A2 and could need a little boost.

I'm starting pretty late but better late than never I suppose. Can we only do one language with this challenge? I've been wanting to learn a few languages for awhile but keep procrastinating, I figure this challenge could help kick-start me in those languages. If only one is possible then Spanish, but if more, then Spanish, German, and Japanese.
I signed up for another challenge a while back but never participated, I'm trying hard to overcome or better manage the ADHD and anxiety problems that cause me to procrastinate too much.

I recommend doing kickstarts one language at a time and once your languages are at a more self-sustaining levels (so to speak) you should start to look into beginning another one. A month of intensive study of one language might not be enough but it would still get you somewhere. It would be easier to overcome your anxiety and focus disorder focusing on one language at a time. Frustration tends to increase with too many simultaneous projects, speaking from experience.

I suppose that's true. I guess I'll just start with Spanish for at least a month or two before adding another.

You can only declare one Target Language for the 6 Week Challenge, but of course you can
still work on other languages during that time. In fact, it's probably a bad idea to
neglect other languages that you had already started to study.
The idea of the 6 Week Challenge is to try to spend as much time as possible on one
language (that you're a beginner or lower intermediate at, not more advanced!) in order
to see a lot of progress in that language. It doesn't say anything about the other
activities you'll do during that time.

I was in first place for a few glorious minutes. But that's only because I accidentally
tweeted 75 hours. Ha!
