Intro

I'll keep it short and sweet...I'm a wannabe polyglot who at age 29 has only managed to learn Spanish. So
as the big 3-0 looms, I have decided to get serious and get studying. Since my Spanish is almost at a
good B1 range, I've decided to add French. French never really interested me much, but I decided it would
be useful if only it opened up a world of Assimil materials. And the weird thing is, I have found it such a
pleasure to speak! So onto my strategy....

Spanish

I have been learning Spanish since elementary school, and three months ago I decided to resurrect my
Spanish with Assimil. I am on lesson 89 of Assimil Spanish With Ease. This has been my first Assimil
course and all I can say is wow! What an amazing method. I am also reading Essential Spanish Grammar
and speaking as much Spanish as possible with friends, family and co-workers. I watch Spanish TV and
read Spanish newspapers and books.

French

I am currently on lesson 2 of the old Linguaphone French course, another amazing resource. I am also
using Easy French Reader and am attempting an AJATT-style immersion experience wherein I try to listen
to as much French as possible.

That's pretty much all I have time to write right now, I'll try to update my log as much as possible!

FR I'm plodding along just fine with Linguaphone. I'm still on lesson 2, it takes me about three or four days to get through a lesson. This is such a great course, I still can't believe I found it at a used book shop for $7, what a bargain! I really like that the lessons follow a story line, and most of all, like Assimil, there's no English in the dialogues. I am also watching/listening to as much French as possible, whether that's RFI, or dubbed episodes of The Simpsons or Family Guy. My ex-wife speaks French as well, so I've been texting her back and forth with what little I'm able to string together. Hopefully I'll find some native speakers to speak with soon.

¡Es todo para ahora!
