I was wondering, if anyone else gets bored from these courses after awhile? I'm close to
the 3rd CD of the advanced course, but getting really bored of it. I'm not sure, if it's because of the students getting on my nerves, or because there is no excitement from it, because I'm not really able to create sentences, other than basic scripted ones? I can't stand audio courses. I can listen to them for a short time, but I prefer to listen to native material, even when I only understand some words here and there. I will then often repeat the words I recognize/understand to keep my interest as I seldom understand what they are talking about.
I would try to listen to other things too. If the only thing you are doing is the audio course I can understand you are getting bored. Maybe try to put in some other kinds of things like music (in the target language), maybe some podcasts for learners or slow news in your language (if you read the news first in your native language you might recognize some of the stories.). This will also let you hear he words you have learned in the audio course in different contexts which might make it more interesting. When I listen to audio courses I repeat the words/phrase in my head (or out loud if you aren't in a position of making people think you are crazy.) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I like Assimil and what not. The only problem is Assimil won't release a Russian course
for English speakers, unless I learn French. =\ I really have no problems with doing Assimil. I have other courses like Colloquial, Penguin Method (lacks audio D:), Teach Yourself (No Russian one), Living Language (Russian one is very awful (no accent marks)). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I'm bored with beginner materials as soon as I start...
as you say the students are getting on your nerves, do you mean the Michel Thomas course? Try video courses (by BBC or others), I enjoy them more than audio courses. And in general: there are so many materials at least for German and Russian that you really don't have to force yourself to do what you find boring. Also, after 2 CD's of the advanced course, would you be able to just translate the Assimil sentences yourself, using a grammar book and obviously a dictionary? I've never used an Assimil course the way you're supposed to but they've still been useful. It sounds like you're trying to reach the same level in Russian as you've reached in German.
