The Italian polymath was self-educated except in art, and was aware of his lack of education in the Latin language (his famous notebook entries are usually in Italian). But there is evidence in his notes of his efforts to learn Latin. He wrote lists of Latin words down, sometimes with an Italian translation alongside, and in mirror script.
