NEW LOG: http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?
TID=36432&PN=1
I'm liveblogging my progress!!!
Well kind of, I just describe what I've done right after I do it, so, for the flowery
and formal introduction...
Hello and welcome to be language log, where I describe my language learning process in
excruciating and probably unnecessary detail. I'm learning German and French, though I
don't know how one gets two languages in the "Type" box, so I just put German, which is
the language I'm going to focus on.
Deutsch-My focus language-Starting from zero
I will take an A2 German proficiency test (ZDP/A2) next spring, so I suppose I should
aim for A2-B1 level. I suppose I should aim
for B1 to be on the safe side. I am starting from the beginning. I'm using a book
called "Learn German the Fast and Fun Way (3rd edition)", WordReference, Verbix, the
German is Easy Blog (http://yourdailygerman.wordpress.com/), and Anki.
Français-The other language-Intermediate level already
My level in French is somewhat intermediate, having studied it for three years in
secondary school. I'm currently reading texts on http://bliubliu.com/ (a website that
finds texts according to your level with a few unknown words)
Note: I edit this post very often, in order to add new languages, reformat, or
do some maintenance.

Sounds good!
Which LL are you going to use? The Ultimate?
I'm looking forward to following your log.

Anyways, I'm moving my language log to HTLAL, here is my previous progress from around
last week
Day 1 of German
I am following an audiobook course called "Living Language: German." There are three
courses, Essential, Intermediate, and Advanced. I have done two Lektionen (lessons) so
far:
Lektion eins: Wichtige Ausdrüke
Lesson one: Essential expressions
Basic greetings
Basic conversation with Wie heißen Sie? and ich heiße
Simple questions with Wer and Wie and Wo/Woher
Lektion zwei: Leute und Familie
Lesson two: People and the Family
Vocabulary
Intermediate family
extended family
A conversation about the family (including the word das Foto)
Grammar
Der, die, das
Ein, eine
Mein, meine
Grammatical gender and why it will rule your world

Lektion drei: Zahlen
Today, I learned:
Counting/Numbers
Von eins bis hundert
Double digit numbers are mainly formed by the second number + und + (first number *
10)...for example 23=dreiundzwanzig (three and twenty)
I haven't learned numbers over 100 though I am guessing they're similar in logic.
Plural forms of nouns
So, apparently plurals are irregular
-n: Schwester/Schwestern, Tante/Tanten
umlauted vowels: Vater/Väter, Mutter/Mütter, Tochter, Töchter
-s: Foto/Fotos
no changes: Mädchen/Mädchen
Diminutive endings in nouns
They always end in -chen or -lein (Mädchen and Mütterlein)
They're always neuter!
They stay the same no matter singular or plural
I haven't been taught when to use/not use the diminutive form of a noun, but it seems
appealing because all words are neuter and don't change when in the plural form. Or
maybe that's a lie and there are some exceptions (<tangent>I'm thinking back to
learning grammar in French class</tangent>)
Dialogue: phone call
The end-of-chapter dialogue was between two friends, Paula and Philipp. Paula is asking
to use Philipp's phone to call her mom in Amerika because it's her mom's birthday.
The dialogue would be more interesting if Paula and Phillip played more "exciting"
roles, like kidnapper and victim. Not to say that it was a bad dialogue (it introduced
the word Bitte and some new verbs), but I've seen the same (hackneyed) dialogue in
other language textbooks. Maybe my mind's messed up or something..
I also learned that Germanophones answer the phone (pun intended..) by saying "Hier" +
their name, or name + greeting. They hang up by saying "Auf Wiederhören" (comparable to
Auf Wiedersehen, I wonder what they would say by text message..
Anyways..
Auf wiedersehen! Mach's gut!

I have recently looked at the series and I was quite disappointed as they look much worse in comparison with the older series but I only tried what I could access for free. It is sure that even their Advanced level covers only about half the former Ultimate and leads only somewhere around A1, perhaps A2. But it still might be a good beginner course, would you please write more about your path through it here? As you are probably the first HTLALer using it, would you mind if I made a link to your log from the wikia page about the LL courses?
Have you bought only the course or the expensive version with the tutored lessons?

@Cavesa It definitely seems like a good beginner course, and I'll update my progress as
I go. The book itself does go at a very slow page. I will also probably be using other
resources. I borrowed LL from my local library, which has the complete Book+CD set. A
link to this page would be great!
