I've printed and bound my MA thesis yesterday. I have a batch of notes I should put up here :) And woow, just saw that Aratools finally has a mobile version! New words Saqaliba Slavic (pl.) I don't know what you mean when you mention the 14th. Anyway...
If you really want to further your Arabic studies, it is my (humble) suggestion that you take a comprehensive approach, i.e., a method that includes more grammar. I say this because I've been following you for maybe a couple of years now, and it seems you've been adding vocabulary (which is good) but not enough grammar (which, if it's true, is not so good). Another advice would be to stop writing Arabic words using the Latin alphabet. I know it's hard and time-consuming, but at some point you're going to have to differentiate between the many Ds, Ts, Ss, and other similar cases. I hope you take these suggestions as food for thought and nothing more. After all, I have little knowledge of your methods and progress. To have more grammar in the log, I'd need a good resource (free or <$10). The Madinah site/book only covers the beginner level. Any ideas?
EDIT: And about Ss, Ts, Ds - my hearing impairment doesn't allow me to differentiate between them. The Latin transcription is there for me to remember the vowels rather than the consonants, which I can read from the Arabic script. It's not as difficult as it seems: because of Islam, many millions of people around the world want to learn Arabic, and many others are happy to provide resources for free. Just type "learn Arabic", "Arabic grammar", or a variant on Google, and the (free) choices will be many. If you need more specific stuff, send me a PM, and I'll see whether I can help you or not. P.S.: I wouldn't worry too much about differentiating spoken Ss, Ts and Ds, just written ones. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Thanks Luso, will be sure to check what I can find after the thesis defence.
In other news, I got my new hearing aids last week (Starkey Z series). EDIT: I set the voiced messages to Spanish, I thought Arabic would be a bridge too far. I can now hear lots of quiet stuff, such as the fridge humming or the birds or the tires of my car and all the 'rustling' sounds (think sh) are not flattened as was the case for all of my life. I am having a teeny problem with understanding speech due to this change and new sounds, but I'm hopeful it will go away with time and adjustment and re-learning sounds. Looks like I will need no accessories (FM, streamer) - I can finally talk on the mobile phone and I've just discovered I can use a normal computer headset, the standard one, not the in-ear ones. I'll probably shell out a bit of cash for a BT headset which could work with both the computer and the mobile if I wanted to listen to music or found myself in a really loud environment. Looking forward to trying out Arabic podcasts or Acapela Speech-to-Text w/ headset on to see if I might be able to differentiate the Ss, Ds and Ts for instance. Oh, and I'm apparently a special snowflake - I've discovered today I can move my tensor tympani muscle voluntarily (I touched the earmold with it which prompted me to check out what muscles are there in/around the ear lol) Edited by Zireael on 19 June 2015 at 9:00am 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I passed my MA defence today with flying colors. My FB feed is now full of congratulations - multilingual, of course, including Arabic. Curiously, Aida posted in French while Anis - in Arabic script.
