Apologies if this has been discussed before, but it seems you have to be pro member to
do a decent search these days :-(
If I get a file with dual language tracks Windows Media Player plays them both...really
annoying! I couldn't figure out how to change this and so have to play such files on
VLC, which makes it easy to choose which audio track you want to listen to.
I used to find this annoying, but inspired by L-R I wonder if this couldn't be an
amazing tool for language learning? Simply put is there a way to play both tracks
simultaneously (as in WMP) but (crucially) reduce the volume of the L1 track
considerably (in whatever media player)?

Have you tried Audacity 1.3? It allows you to split stereo tracks into two tracks with separate volume settings. (Click the triangle right of the file name and select Split Stereo Track from the dropdown menu.)

Yes, use the google search. It works better than the pro member search.
