Hello Everyone,

I've had Assimil french for a year but only been using it on and off and I've got up to lesson 20.

I remember what the words means but if you was to ask me how do yosay ''how to ride a bike'' for example in french I wouldn't know? I do remember some other sentences though: ''où sont les gants'' I think lol

I once e-mailed Michael Heim, I think his name was, and he said you don't have to learn every sentence before you move on but Assimil is my only method and I don't have the language speakers around me.

So, in your personal opinion, how would you use Assimil?

What I do realise is that I follow the football related twitter pages, which I wont mention the same of just it case it looks like I'm advertising, and I do understand a fair bit in the sentences, they tweet in English afterwards, but you couldn't ask me to repeat what was just said in french (I mean in terms of writing down or repeating what I just said without looking)

Back to my main question: So, in your personal opinion, how would you use Assimil?
In terms of time per day
method so it 'sinks in'

I would appreciate the help of anyone who is kind enough to help

:)

This forum is like Assimil's fan base headquarter. Just look around and you'll find ways people have come up everywhere :)

Luca Lampariello is possibily the Assimil champion. He posted a few times here years ago and I would recommend at least having a look at his website. His method is simple and works, if you are consequent and work regularly as he suggests. If you send him an email he will answer it. Good luck and do a little bit every day.

Hmm. I just did a search on his blog. "Assimil" returned some articles, but none of them actually describes a method. Do you have an idea how to look it up? I planned to start with Assimil too, after all the praises I read here, but I decided to wait until I found a promising route to follow.

I've been using Luca's method for almost a month now and I've been making consistent
progress with my Spanish.

Good luck, all!

I|ve read his articles and watched his video. Sounds pretty good. I'm 15 months into learning Japanes already, so I'll have to find out where to start with Assimil tho - or it'll take weeks spent repeating known content. But that might also be useful.

His advice "start with quality, then add quantity" also seems logical.

I use Assimil using this blogger's plan, which apparently comes from the Assimil Dutch program's own directives.

Language Geek

He also has a second wave blog post which a simple search will find.
