Hi Mae,

Schön, dass wir für das TAC - Jahr 2013 im gleichen Team Viking sind! Hat mich gefreut, dass du auch bei "Skype Me Maybe" mitgemacht hast und so toll gesungen hast.

Viele Grüße,

Fasulye

VIKING CHALLENGE #1: Sätt igång!

Our team's godmother Solfrid Cristina set up the first small challenge for Team Viking.

Solfrid Cristin wrote:
Prepare to write a post on this thread. Set your timer, or the
stop watch on your cell phone and put it on 5 minutes, Then write as much as you can in
your target language without using anything but your brain. No dictionaries, no course
books. Then set your timer for another 5 minutes, and write whatever you want, this
time using a dictionary if you like (and you want to spend some of your precious 5
minutes on that).

The nice side effect of this particular challenge, is of course that both you and I
then will get an idea of where you all are, and it will be easier to plan mini
challenges in the future. Anyone who joins the team later, can just do the challenge
when it is convenient for them.

Have fun!

Here's my answer, at least for the first part, since my Swedish is still very basic:

men jag har besökt många länder. Snart vill vi resa till nordiska länder för att se
Malmö och Köpenhamn...

@Solfrid Cristina: I'm sure it's going to be great fun!

@Fasulye: Vielen Dank! Ich fand es toll dass so viele mitgemacht haben, querbeet war
für jeden etwas dabei. Es hat viel Spass gemacht, und ich fand es cool dass in der
letzten Version noch ein Stück dabei ist, wo du Gitarre spielst!

Hip hip - Team Viking! :-)

TAC 2013 - Bright lookout

First I didn't know which languages to pick for the TAC 2013. I would have loved to
spend again some time learning Russian, and improving my (Brazilian) Portuguese. But I
know there is no suitable Russian language course for me at my university's language
centre. Learning only Brazilian Portuguese wouldn't have been challenging enough for
me, so I had to move on.
Why not refresh my Germanic languages then? That is how I decided to pick Swedish and
Dutch for the challenge.

Just after signing up, I was invited to join the team learning Scandinavian languages -
"Viking". The team seems to have enough potential to kick a... :-) I'm glad to be a
part of it. This is the main reason why I think there is a bright lookout to improve
these two languages as much as I can in only one year.

The material I'll be using:

Swedish:
- "Tala Svenska A1" textbook, workbook + audio CDs [Erbrou Olga Guttke, GROA Verlag]
- "Tala Svenska A2+" textbook, workbook + audio CDs [Erbrou Olga Guttke, GROA Verlag]
- "Schnellkurs Schwedisch" workbook + audio CDs [Therese Bernhardt, Hueber Verlag]
- "Grammatikübungsbuch Schwedisch" [I. + L. Adelt, Buske Verlag]
- "Die Top 1000 Wörter Schwedisch" [Langenscheidt]
- "Taschenwörterbuch Schwedisch" dictionary [Langenscheidt]
- "Mini-Sprachkurs Schwedisch" booklet + mp3 CD [Gesa Füssle, Pons]
- "Sprich Mal Schwedisch" podcast + PDF files [Joakim Andersson]

Dutch:
- "Praktischer Sprachlehrgang Niederländisch" workbook + CDs [Langenscheidt]
- "Die Top 1000 Wörter Niederländisch" [Langenscheidt]
- "Niederländisch - Unregelmässige Verben" Verb-wheel [Hueber]
- "Laura Speaks Dutch" podcast [Brenno de Winter]
- "DutchPod101" podcast [Innovative Language Learning]

These are non-exhaustive lists. Of course I'll be using index cards, notes, etc.

Good luck + happy learning to us all! Let the games begin!!! :-)

Swedish and Dutch are 2 great languages, quite similar to each other so it can't be too
hard. I'm studying Swedish myself but i'm a native Dutchmen, so maybe we can have some
Skype conversations later on and speak Swedish and I could help you with Dutch ^^

Best of luck, looking forward to reading your log!

Mae, good luck with TAC 2013! I think I'll be an avid reader of your log, as I learn Swedish and want to go back to Dutch at some point this year.

It would be nice to organize a Swedish meeting on Skype sometime!

If it weren't for my capricious connection, I'd be happy to participate in such a Skype session.
