Language: Italian
Current Level: A2-B1
Aim: Solid B1 by the end of 2013
Reason for learning: It's a lifetime passion, I just love the sound of Italian.
Resources: Assimil Italian with Ease, FSI FAST Italian Course, La Lingua Italiana Per
Stranieri by Katerin Katerinov, Rai Radio, Podcasts from podclub. ch, Anki
My Plan:
- Follow Assimil with Luca's method planning to finish the book in 107 days. Currently
at day 31st day.
- 1 unit per week from FSI Fast Course, finished Unit 1 so far.
- Study from La Lingua Italiana Per Stranieri whenever i can spare time.
- Listen to podcasts and Rai radio everyday on the road (and whenever i can find free
time)
Language: Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic)
Current Level: Absolute Beginner
Aim: A2 by the end of this year.
Reason for learning: My Arabic heritage; I'm arabic (syrian) from my father's side and
Turkish from my mother's. My native language is Turkish and i've never been to any
Arabic country since when i am 7 (1991).
Resources: Alif Baa with DVD's, Al-Kitaab
My Plan: I intend to finish Alif Baa with DVD's then follow entre Al-Kitaab course, as
much as i can do on my own at home 1 hour per day is the time i can spare most. Luckily
i'm no stranger to Arabic script. (From Holy Qoran) Native language of my father's
family is Eastern Arabic but i love the sound of Maghrebi Arabic most. I will focus on
learning MSA first, then decide what's best for me later on (considering dialects.)

Update 23.01.2013
Italian
============
I'm putting in Italian words (that are new to me )that i come by everyday into my Anki deck; It has almost 400 words already ( i began this 15 days ago). That + 601 Italian verbs deck take alot of time everyday to review. In addiotion to that i keep my daily assimil studies, but skipped a few days on FSI due to a out of town work trip. I have finished Unit two in FSI fast yesterday. I haven't managed to find time to spare for La Lingua Italiana Per Stranieri this week. If it counts i have listened to alot of Italian pop music; Giorgia, Laura Pausini and so on. Any immersion is good.
Arabic
=============
I've finished Unit two of Alif Baa with DVD's. Amazing book, i thought i knew arabic script but that turned out to be a lie. It's an awesome awesome source.

Update 07.02.2013
Italian
===============
I will be done with unit 7 of FSI Italian Fast by the end of this week. I've found an android application for all Italian radios; comes with some advertisment but it's quite good. I like Rai Uno and Tre most. I stopped using Anki, i think software has too many issues (or doesn't like my phone). I am half way done with Assimil Italian with Ease by now.
Arabic
===============
I have finished unit 5 of Alif Baa.
German
===============
A colleague of mine is studying German intensively and his passion provoked my love-hate relationship with German... once more. I've decided to pick it up again. We will see how it goes. So far i've only started listening to Michel Thomas German Foundation, 1 hour per day on the road.

Update 18.02.2013
Italian
===========
Everything going as planned; I've also began studying Italian grammar from Lingua Italiana per Stranieri by Katerinov. FSI Fast unit 10 is completed.
Arabic
============
After finishing Alif Baa; I've lost my interest in Arabic. It now seems to me too much of a struggle for too little gain. There is hardly any Arabic literature and Music i would enjoy even if i mastered all dialects of Arabic.
German
============
I am doing 30 minutes of Michel Thomas everyday to revive my existing German. In addition I'm devoting another half hour to FSI's German FAST course daily and started dusting off my grammar and vocabulary books.

Update 02.03.2013
Italian
===========
Assimil finally got fun again after lesson 60. Lessons between 40 and 60 are so dull it
makes me wanna cry. I completed 2 more units of FSI fast since my last post and 2 units
in Lingua Italiana per Stranieri. Also i try to listen to Italian podcasts everyday; at
least for 15 minutes. Elections in Italy and il Movimento delle Cinque Stelle; has been
a blessing due to thousands of hours of radio broadcasts of angry Italians arguing in
light speed.
German
===========
After completing first 2 recordings of Michel Thomas Foundation ( I listen to same
recording 5 times before i consider it completed ) I began Pimsleur course. Completed
lesson 13 of unit 1 as of today. Also got my hands on Teach Yourself German by Paul
Goggle and Langenscheidts Kurzgrammatik&Basic Vocabulary books.
Edit: With help of Serpent (many thanks) i came up with Deutsch Warum Nicht series of
Deutsche Welle. Amazing source. Also got old Teach Yourself book by Sir Adams (revised
version). I have some sort of long term plan in my head now. After completing Michel
Thomas Foundation and Pimsleur I ( I am half way through on both anyways ) I will start
learning German Grammar from old Teach Yourself book and Langenscheidts Kurzgrammatik.
After that i will use new Teach Yourself by Paul Goggle and perhaps Assimil if i get
it.

Update 24.03.2013
Hi again. I have not been updating this log much lately, since i was already logging my
language learning activities in 6 week challenge bot anyways. It has been an amazing 6
weeks. Even though i started participating in after 18th of feb; i made quite a bt of
progress.
Italian
==============
As of moment, i'm repeating Assimil Italian with Ease's active phase again and also
continute studying Italian grammar from La Lingua Italiana per Stranieri. I'm currently
studying i verbi riflessivi and their passato forms.
German
===============
I'm done with Pimsleur I and 3/4th of Michel Thomas Foundation as well as first 20
lessons of Deutsch Warum Nicht from Deutsche Welle. I think i know about 1000 German
words as of now. My Anki deck has over 700 cards and i can say i know %90 of them +
basic vocabulary i didn't bother adding in Anki.

I am half way in the MT German foundation. Can you actually have a small conversation, now that you're finished?
