Well, I feel that I shall post my very first learning log in this forum as well.
Spanish
I started to learn Spanish about 2-3 months ago, while doing it quite passivly.. at first I was in the midst of my finals and now that I past them all, including an outstanding oral exam in English (which I'm very proud of!) I'm facing the situation that I really want to study more, realizing I have my thoughts in so many directions that it's quite difficult to concentrate on language learning.. which is probably an excuse for my laziness.
Well, I'm through with 17 lections of Assimil, while I also received very little input through my chilean uncle, who only would speak Spanish with me, when he heard I was just starting to learn it and also an old argentinian friend on facebook, who is quite activly doing posts on his wall.. I always try to translate what he says.
Eventhough of this very little input I already made the first and maybe also a second step to my goal of having a good command of this language. If I'm reading simple basic Spanish, it makes already perfect sense to me, eventhough I will have to use a dictionary to understand it.. I think I already achieved a very basic grasp of Spanish grammar. I'm relieved with that as I think it's good to be happy about the little steps, instead of being impatient for the big ones.
I will fly to Colombia in 4 weeks, where I'm going to travel down south to Lima, Peru for 8 weeks.. I have high expectations concerning my Spanish after this trip. I simply can't wait to report about how it went!
Icelandic
I just learned some very basics so far in a selflearner I bought for myself. This project is long-term so I'm fine with slow learning now. I also registrated to the icelandic learning programm of the University of Iceland.. with that I hope to be busy for the rest of the year. I planed to begin my studies in iceland, but I figured out that the Bachelor course I want to take, is only in icelandic over there.. I will probably begin my studies in geosciences here in Germany and mix it with a semester in iceland.. would be a dream if i would be able to get a well-paid job there after my bachelor or if I will do a masters degree after that.. My urge towards Iceland and it's language is very strong, so I'm not pushing myself now as I know I will face icelandic sooner or later..
We'll see how things will turn out the next months.. would be nice to get some tips, also concerning the mental part of learning languages.. I oftenly have this feeling that I want to sit down and do a session of learning, but then I realize it would be also nice to lay down, watch a movie or play a game.. it's harder as it sounds to be lazy.
Have a nice one everybody!

well, I hope I will get at least someone interessted by now :)
I came back like a little less than 2 weeks ago and am currently about to adapt myself back to european life. Since you will not be interessted in anything apart the level of how much I improved my Spanish skills, I will get straight to it:
Obviously I got dramatically better. Though I have to say different accents are hard to pinpoint.. I had no problems at all understanding people in a few regions, because they spoke a very slow and clear south american Spanish. There were also regions where I understood shit.. and when I had to change flights in Madrid on my way home, I also realized just by HOW MUCH it's different to south american Spanish.
Well, either way I still want to get much better.. my Spanish got pretty good on levels what to say to people if I need directions or have to ask something that I need to know.. but that's about it. I definitely need more time..
I just realized that it won't help me a lot to study the language from books, as I already have a decent overview of the language.. I definitely rather watch serieses or even movies with subtitles..
But for that I need to figure out what's best for me ? English or German dub and Spanish sub ? Or Spanish dub and English or German sub ? Both sound reasonable to me, but one of them has to be more effective, right ? And also: should I watch serieses or movies ? I'm tending to serieses, because I enjoy movies way to much as I would miss out watching them in English or German. But what kind of series should I watch ? Serieses like How I met your mother would be way to difficult.. I think it's not a good series to learn languages with.. I rather have a series with easy language, but still reasonable plot.. what can you recommend ?
Hope you guys will help me with that :)
Cheers!
