@patrickwilken: 6 months up to B1. It's inspiring to know thats possible. Unfortunately I can only dispense about an
hour a day because of work and all but I'm hoping the cultural immersion might compensate somewhat. I agree that
reading books is a major milestone since it frees you of the boredom of strictly structured study.
@montmorency: I'm enjoying living in Luxembourg. It's quite a change from Portugal, especially climate-wise and
the whole country seems to go to a stand-still on Sundays. However its been surprisingly easy to adapt. Regarding
the languages, its quite a melting pot over here. In a minute you see people switch from Luxembourgish to German,
to French, to English, .... Its a pleasant experience though :)
@flarioca & @DanielJorge: Obrigado pelos conselhos. Terei o devido cuidado de tentar memorizar os gêneros e
plurais das palavras, até porque já tive a má experiência de não o fazer com o Francês (os gêneros) e agora é difícil
de remediar. Se me permitem a pergunta, e a título de curiosidade, o que os levou a aprender Alemão? Estou a
assumir que pelo Brazil não seja uma língua particularmente usada, mas posso estar errado.
Thanks again for the motivation. Hope that in a few months we might still be sharing experiences, but in German...
:)
Now... back to study

Well after 350 hours you should certainly be approaching B1, if you aren't already there, so perhaps one year is a more realistic goal (say after the snows melt early next year).

Como você sabe, a colônia alemã no Brasil é bastante grande. Sou também descendente de alemães e tenho interesse em descobrir mais sobre este ramo de minha família. Além disso, penso em estudar por um tempo na Alemanha, fora o interesse por sua riquíssima cultura.

Just looking at my experience, B1 is possible in a lot more time than you might initially think. I probably put in no more than an hour (and not even everyday) for around 6 months, and by the end of that time my language was in a completely different place. Good luck!

It's been nearly a week since I started the thread so it's time for a quick progress report.
I'm still following Assimil German where... ich bin am fünfzehnten Lektion
The difficulty seems to be progressing pretty fast though since a lot of new vocabulary is introduced at each lesson.
To try and deal with this problem I've started a new anki deck with all words from Assimil up until the current lesson
to ease the memorisation and the review of past words.
Also yesterday I went shopping at a supermarket in Germany and its funny how many things I was actually able to
read with such a small set of vocabulary.

Using Anki to memorize all the vocabulary from the lessons from the course I did was essential for me.
