I forgot this forum existed for quite a while. Anyway:
- I discovered Memrise, and learnt the 200-something radicals for kanji.
- I made a word frequency list from a lot of different anime subtitles, and am about a third of the way through with learning the top 450 words. I'm also going through the vocabulary from Genki I.
- I've started making a grammar learning list as well.
- I've made friends with three Japanese people through Lang-8, one of them with charmingly poor English and one with very good English who teaches Japanese as a foreign language. I've added them to Skype and two of them to Facebook. And at least one of them can even record themselves reading in Japanese for me if I need it.
- I've downloaded Rikaichan and am used to using it now
- I've found a few places of interest (mostly websites with raw anime, books to turn into parallel texts, and recipe websites) to keep track of and practise with.
My goal is to become good enough at Japanese that I can, at least, hold a basic conversation or read recipes or daily chat, by the end of this year. (Or, not "and"). However, if it turns out I need to study a ton in order to take a Swedish test that I might have to take, depending on how much effort I need to put into that, I might have to push back my goal.
My overall goal is to be very good at Japanese by the end of three years. I want to be able to read the sorts of things I want to read, and talk to the sorts of people I want to talk to, and so on. I think that's very possible, if one does it right.
So these are my goals for June:
- Finish the anime/manga vocabulary list
- Finish creating the grammar list, at least
- Remember to play Pokemon Green, and start looking for simple flash games to play in Japanese.
- Finish making my vocabulary list for "words from my friends' Facebook updates" (luckily they don't update often)
- Hopefully remember to start practising handwriting

How did you make a word frequency list of the anime?
