I haven't seriously studied languages in about four years. My previous log was here:
http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?T ID=12093&PN=1&TPN=1
I burnt myself out with languages, in addition to overloading myself with school, and
haven't had the time or the incentive to study since. I've come
across some free time so I plan on refreshing what I forgot and hopefully get back to
where I used to be, plus more. Having a log here should give me extra
incentive to stick to my plan.
What I plan on doing for now is going through Assimil French, Spanish, and German. My
Spanish doesn't need as much brushing up as the others, as I've been
able to use Spanish the past few months. In any case, it can't hurt to go back and
rebuild my foundations. I can make short time in getting through the
first half of Assimil Spanish. In addition to Assimil, I have some other resources
somewhere at my house like random grammars, slang books, some
literature, Cortina, Berlitz, and possibly Teach Yourself and Colloquial, though my
collection of them is mostly relegated to non-Romance languages.
If I ever go back to Russian or Hindi, it won't be any time soon. Catalan can wait
until my Spanish is back where it used to be. Same with Norwegian with
relation to German. And Indonesian isn't a priority anymore. My main goal at this
point is to be able to be consistent in my studying and not burn
myself out like I've done so many times before. Consistency really is key.
My biggest obstacles will be starting a math research program in a week that will last
for five weeks, followed by an intense 22-hour academic semester, starting mid-August,
including more math research in an attempt to get published before I graduate, combined
with training for powerlifting. Luckily I do my best work when I'm under pressure.
Anywho, I'll be starting this back up May 31, and I'd love to have followers and
input/advice to help keep me motivated!
