Hello HTLAL,
I’m going to try and keep this log interesting and informative so that future Dutch learners on this forum might look at this as a source of inspiration and think "Hmm maybe learning Dutch isn't that bad after all".
My current learning goal is to improve my Dutch in 70 active minutes of learning a day, sometimes more, some days less, broken up into two 35 minute chunks, and half an hour of passive listening. Hopefully by August 25th I will obtain the equivalent of a B1 in Dutch and be able to converse on every day subjects. I have some amounts of free time during work or the commute there which is nice for language learning! I would rate my current level about nothing, considering I’ve only learned for 5 days now..
Why am I learning Dutch? I’m an athlete and one of my dreams is to go the Netherlands for a few months and do nothing but experience the life and train in some of the world class gyms in Dutch style kickboxing; hopefully this becomes a reality and if it does, you will be sure to hear about it on this log.
I need to find a good Anki wordlist or make my own with audio, the main problem with all the ones I find on Anki’s database is that they are either
1) garbage or
2) in alphabetical order which is no small irritation
What I do every day:
Do a passive wave of Assimil Dutch with Ease, review and actively translate previous lessons
Watch Dutch videos on YouTube and find interesting musicians
Read the news and headlines every day on http://www.telegraaf.nl/
Occasionally pop over to dutchgrammar.com and go over the finer points of Dutch
What I am currently working on: a B1 level in Dutch by August 25th (5 months from today)

Veel succes met het Nederlands!
Don't hesitate to ask if you don't understand. Dutch is a pretty sweet language.

Veel succes Leroc! We're a rare bunch those who learn Dutch so it's always nice to see a new character in the fold.
Hartelijk welkom.

Welcome leroc. Yes, we are a relatively small but very dedicated group of Dutch learners here on HTLAL, all willing to help in any way we can. My advice is to go beyond just the language and really get involved in Dutch/Flemish culture, history, geography, people, etc. Once you get immersed in things Dutch, you will have no problem staying motivated in learning the language.
