I thought there were statistically more boys born, but our early death rate was higher so it balanced out. Lots of things go wrong for boys, most forms of mental illness are higher (except for depression) in males.

It balanced out when there was a high children's death rate. Now it balances out by the
age of 40 or even more. In Russia it happens earlier (at the age of 30-35) because of
the relatively high male death rate.
