It seems most guys here don't take this question seriously. But I think it's a legitimate and good question. So, I'll try a serious answer:
I think (probably in contrast to many others here) that learning a foreign language is a good way to get to know women, but having a foreign girlfriend is maybe not the best way to learn her language (except her English is really really bad). Why is it good to learn a foreign language? Because most women appreciate it when you are interested in their country and culture and you do your best to learn their language, especially if you are an English native speaker and/or her native tongue is not one of the major languages in the world. Just being able to speak a few sentences in her language can sometimes work wonders. But why doesn't having a foreign girlfriend equal language success and fluency? Because once you "got" her, you might feel like you have reched your goal, and you will resort to the language you both can communicate in easily, which is English in most cases... So, either pick a girl who can't speak English or be really hard to yourself and try to speak with her as much in her native tongue as possible. So, which language to learn? If you like the type, study an East Asian language, in your case probably Mandarin, as you already started to learn it. And once you got to know a Chinese girl you like, learn some sentences in her local "dialect" (Cantonese, Taiwanese, Shanghainese or whatever). Every sentence you can say in her real native language will count ten times as much as any sentence you can say in standard Mandarin. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I agree with that. When I first started dating my girlfriend we would sometimes speak in French. Because she likes the language and she's learning it. But now it's English only. indeed because it is more effective. And I had this feeling of being used when we were talking in French.
