Given the time necessary to become good at a foreign language, meeting women is probably not the best reason
for learning a foreign language. After all, you would want already have a girlfriend before you reached fluency.
But onto languages themselves, it's going to depend on where you are. When I was in Korea, all the male
foreign English teachers I knew had English speaking Korean girlfriends. And the relationships of course were in
English. In Korea, the women who don't speak English for the most part choose not to date foreign men, even if
the foreign man is good at speaking Korean.
Now, with Chinese, Spanish, and Russian, its a whole different ballgame. It's not uncommon for an American or
European to learn those languages and get good at it. If you really want an Asian girlfriend, Chinese is a good
choice because even if the asian girl you have your eye on is not Chinese, she'll probably be interested in
learning Chinese and be impressed if you know it. Heck, when I was teaching English in Korea, many Koreans
thought I could speak Chinese simply because I knew a couple hundred Hanjas.
In America, many of the hispanic girls speak mostly Spanish and so learning Spanish would be a good
investment in the ladies department. And Spanish is easier than Chinese or Russian. The main answer to this
meeting the ladies question simply lies with the number of speakers and the geographic regions where the
language is spoken.

Interesting stuff, sketerses!
Don't forget that the best language for "meeting" women was, is, and will be money. ;)

You got it. And don't forget power. (As manifested by your property, education, physical strength, or what have you.) Kinda sucks if you're a guy who pathetically believes in "romance" (like me). Even women don't believe in romance...they just pretend they do.

Interesting. May I ask ... why? |

I don't really know, it's probably not a rational thing. Maybe it has to do with ingrained stereotypes about foreign men, or maybe the accent makes people less threatening, and makes you feel like you are more important if the speaker goes through the trouble to speak a language they are unfamiliar with just to talk to you. Maybe it's because in America everything is spoken so plainly and an accent just makes it sound prettier.
When I said most women, I was speaking for American women. Maybe it's different in Europe.

I think it depends on what you mean by romance. Some people have a view of romance that is kind of demeaning.

If what you said is true, then I'm a freak of nature. As a woman, I'm actually put off by guys who flaunt their "power" and "money". What's wrong with good ol' romance? Don't knock it.
Anyway, this is off-topic.

It is, and I'm a bit sorry I brought it up, and a bit glad it didn't escalate into a full-blown flame war. I only meant to hint at the importance of this and other socio-psychological facts. After all, who says rich men can't be romatics? (rethorical question)
