I was thinking about all the Norwegian black metal I listen to (well, I mainly listen to Emperor... You can't beat them!) and it occurred to me that a lot of the metal I listen to is foreign (not from English speaking countries) yet most of them sing in English. Listening to Emperor, In Flames etc. is all good and well, but I want to listen in other languages! What are everyone's favourite metal bands that don't sing in English?
Name anything, but I personally hate cheesy/poppy metal (which is barely metal anyway). You know, thrash/black/death metal. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Unfortunately all Finnish extreme metal bands, that I have listened enough to give a recommendation, sing in English. But one very interesting band with Estonian lyrics (including some Old-Estonian as well, I believe) is Metsatöll. Its not trash, death or black, a bit hard to classify actually, but I don't find it particularly cheesy or poppy.

I love Finntroll's sense of humour.
Catamenia - Finnish (Now growl with me VEEERIKANSAA :D:D) If softer bands are also alright with you - not old school black metal, more 'dark metal', viking/pagan themed, industrial or gothic influenced: Siebenbürgen - old Swedish dialect (one of my favourite dark metal bands) Chthonic - Taiwanese (they're a bit soft but that's okay with me and I simply love the fact that they are symphonic black metal and sing in Chinese!) I like Korpilklaani, a finnish folk metal band. I would say about half of their songs are finnish, the rest English. They are less heavy and more folky than Finntroll but still metal. Arafel is an israeli band, which I think mostly sing in russian. Heidevolk are a dutch folk metal band that are quite fun. I also like Lumsk, another folk metal band, from Norway. Their newer stuff is more folk than metal but their first album Åsmund Frægdegjevar is good. I hope this helps and sorry most of them are folk metal.

The only one of these I listen to regularly would be Finntroll. Most of the bands I listen to though admittedly, you would not necessarily know which language they're speaking unless you read the lyric sheets. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I don't listen to heavy metal very often, but here are a few heavy metal bands that don't sing in English
Afrikaans K.O.B.U.S. Swaar Metaal Finnish There are many Finnish heavy metal bands already listed in the Music & Languages thread so I'll only post two here Kotiteollisuus Valtakunta Verjnuarmu Kärähtäny Kylä Farsi It's difficult to find Iranian rock bands that sing onstage because the Iranian government only allows instrumental performances by rock bands but here's one clip: Soashyant Ayeneye Hagh Other Iranian bands I haven't listened to the following bands as much but you might want to check them out on YouTube Kahtmayan Ahoora Axiom ArthimotH I'm not sure if these bands sing in English or Farsi, but I know that much of Kahtmayan's music is instrumental.
